SensAwake Responsive Pressure Relief
Detect. Relieve. Return. SensAwake promotes better overall sleep. We all experience subconscious waking through the night at which time pressure intolerance is likely to occur. SensAwake responsive pressure relief: Whereas other pressure relief technologies provide partial relief during expiration, SensAwake provides a prompt and significant relief in pressure to the lowest most comfortable level upon waking. This eases the return to sleep and allows effective treatment to resume. 01
SensAwake can be compared to the simple concept of a Ramp but without the need for patient involvement. This action simulates a sleep technician s intuitive response to a waking patient and is in line with peer-reviewed guidelines 1 for manual CPAP titration. 02
Detect. During sleep, regular breathing is indicative of a relaxed comfortable state, as demonstrated in the flow signal opposite. 2 Regular respiration corresponds with sleep (non-rem) on the polysomnogram SLEEP EPOCH 120 Seconds of Flow Signal A pattern of irregular breathing occurs at the transition from sleep to awake, as shown in the flow signal opposite. 2 SensAwake identifies this characteristic breathing pattern. Irregularity of the flow signal corresponds with awake on the polysomnogram AWAKE EPOCH 120 Seconds of Flow Signal Irregularity during REM breathing does not display the same traits of high amplitude breaths characterized by the irregularity during awake breathing. Relieve. Return. Once wakefulness is detected the device will remain at the predetermined awake or minimum pressure until Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) is detected. In response to the detection of SDB the device will automatically increase the pressure. This response will differ dependent on whether a fixed or auto-adjusting device is being used, as shown in the graph to the right.
