January 2018 In This Issue Happy New Year The Official Newsletter of the Tehachapi Amateur Radio Association Volume 2, Number 1 Happy New Year Just the Beginning Annual Christmas Party It is incredible how time marches on when you re not looking. It seemed like only yesterday that I was attending my very first Hamvention in Palm Springs. That was in February 2017! Since time does pass, whether I want it to or not, I would like to take a moment and wish everyone the Best for 2018. We hope to do bigger and even better things this year, an active year too. Guest Speakers & Presentation 2018 Event Planning and Calendar Membership and Dues ARRL Calendar of Events TARA Calendar of Events Important Information Local Repeaters Club Websites TARA Officers & Committee s TARA Meeting & Club Information Membership Application Contact Us Annual Christmas Party (2017) th The Annual Christmas Party was held on December 16 at Gracian s at 5:30 pm. It didn t take long for the room to fill with people and conversation. Along with a great meal, we had a raffle as well as a gift exchange. Several prizes were offered in the raffle ranging from gift certificates; to radios and the ultimate prize was a backpack with a loop antenna. Along with a great end to 2017, we did handle a small amount of business. The revised ByLaws were voted on and approved. Guest Speakers and Presentation Visit us on Facebook! The first was Michael Gruett with the Bear Valley Springs DPAC or Disaster Preparedness Advisory Council. He spoke for several minutes to introduce himself and the BVS DPAC. We can look forward to a more presentations from Michael and how our club may be able to work with them in the future. Our second speaker and presenter was our very own Charlie Flint (KG6CMF). Charlie talked about several of his antenna projects. Unfortunately, we were short on time and Charlie was only able to speak for about 1520 minutes. I m hoping that we could have him back to talk more about them and maybe, just a suggestion, help us build one. One of the projects that I am personally interested in building, particularly as a group, would be the antenna used in T Hunts or Fox Hunts. You might recall that Phil Dolber (W6WBT) and the NASA Armstrong Amateur Radio club hosted their Spring Transmitter Hunt last April. While I plan to participate in the event this year (I was just a photographer last year), I think this would be a great opportunity for a great time, good food and an excuse to build some antenna s! Just mentioning this event in conjunction with Charlie s presentation leads me into our next topic. Event Planning and our Annual Calendar of Events for 2018!

KM6DXY Tehachapi, CA 935811681 Via email: To: KM6DXY@ARRL.net Subject: The Dummy Load Newsletter Or Click Here 2018 Event Planning and Calendar As part of this newsletter, I have tried to include events that will be taking place over the next two to three months. These events are mostly ARRL contests, however, some included other events as I became aware of them. I suggested, at the January meeting, that we have an annual planning meeting and use that venue to plan all club activities, ham radio related events and ARRL contests for 2018. In lieu of a printed calendar, Phil Dolber (W6WBT) suggested creating an online version that can posted online. To help build this calendar, everybody s input is necessary. Please submit any and all events to me to be included. My email address is KM6DXY@ARRL.net Membership and Dues It s that time of year. As you know, every year about this time we need all our members to renew their membership with the club. You will find a copy of the membership application attached to this months newsletter. The fees are simple: $25.00/year per member. If you have family living at home with you, they can join for an additional $12.50/year. Attending school, college or trade school? No problem, your membership is even less. ARRL CALENDAR of EVENTS events sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).
