Child Adult & Treatment & Rehabilitation Mandate To provide specialized assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to adults with schizophrenia, mood disorders, personality disorders and dual diagnosis. Overview Inpatient Services Adult Treatment and Rehabilitation Services Inpatient Program: The program has four inpatient units. Two units focus on inpatient assessment, diagnosis and stabilization for individuals who present with complex or rare illnesses and the other two have a rehabilitation focus and are dedicated to discharge planning and facilitating the transition to community living. Individuals served often present with a primary psychiatric diagnosis and concurrent developmental delay, addiction, acquired brain injury or other diagnosis that increase the complexity of the care required. Outpatient Services Schizophrenia/Rehabilitation Outpatient Services: The majority of the Kingston-based outpatient services associated with the Schizophrenia/Rehabilitation Service are colocated at 525 and 533 Montreal Street. This site is easily accessible to clients, many of whom live nearby. The interdependence of the services at 525 Montreal Street enhances care and promotes efficient use of resources. These programs include: Community Integration ACT Team Psychosocial Rehabilitation ACT Team Community Outreach Team Vocational Rehabilitation Services Voices Opportunities and Choices Employment Club (not-for-profit, incorporated affirmative business) Community Connections Recovery Program Community High Intensity Treatment Team (which is located at Mental Health Services site) Mood Disorders Research and Treatment Services: Outpatient Clinic Group Programs Outreach Team Northern Frontenac Rural Outreach Program Electroconvulsive Therapy and TMS Treatment 31

Personality Disorders Outpatient Services: Developments Chrysalis Day Program Managing Powerful Emotions Individual follow-up Outreach and Consultation Education The remainder of the dually-diagnosed clients who were formerly housed at the Royal Ottawa Hospital were received and they have transitioned well to Providence Care. A series of seminars conducted by the Developmental Consulting Program at Queen s University has been offered for Providence Care and Leeds & Grenville Community Rehabilitation and Counselling Service staff to help better serve the dually diagnosed clients. We have also sent staff to the Geneva Institute in Toronto. A multisensory Snoezelen room is being installed on one of the units to better serve the dual diagnosed clients. In March 2011, the Adult Treatment and Rehabilitation Service engaged in a successful external review of the services we provide. This review was very comprehensive and looked at all aspects of the program and the feedback from the assessors will help us to move forward and plan for the future. In May, the Community High Intensity Treatment Team underwent an external review which documented the significant outcomes the team has achieved in successfully transitioning clients to the community and achieving a 95% reduction in bed days for former long stay inpatients. The Team s role in providing Assertive Community Treatment within Lennox & Addington County represents the first opportunity for L & A clients to access a dedicated treatment program that can meet or exceed the intensity of ACT Team services. Without the presence of CHITT, community service providers stated they could not safely or effectively support the clients. ATR co-hosted two major conferences this year. In May 2011, Partnerships That Work looked at partnerships that bring together the knowledge, expertise and resources of people and organizations essential to the lives of individuals with mental health and addictions issues to improve access to services, enhance the capacity for support and foster innovation. In September, we followed this conference up with Walk Out, Walk On, a gathering of mental health providers to share experiences, explore, understand and articulate what the concept of collaboration means to mental health service providers in the Southeast. Many staff from ATR are actively involved in the planning for the new hospital including regular representation on planning committees as well as making site visits to recently completed mental health facilities. In partnership with Frontenac Community Mental Health and Addiction Services, ATR is cooperatively looking at ways to transition clients back into the community successfully. The goal of this partnership is to transition 24-28 long-stay inpatients to community living as well as developing a long-term plan for transitioning future inpatients into the community. Recruitment In October 2011, we welcomed Dr. Dusan Kolar to the Mood Disorders Research and Treatment Services working with both inpatient and outpatient populations. 32
