Terminology: Organic disorders: These are medical disorders. They are caused by a detectable physiological change or malfunction. For example, brain damage from an accident, Alzheimer s disease, Parkinson s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. Neurotic disorders: These are distressing but still let the person think rationally and function socially. Psychotic disorders: The person suffering from a psychotic disorder loses touch with reality and has irrational ideas and distorted perceptions.
