October 2018 Newsletter St. Jude Catholic School 5355, Highway 34, Vankleek Hill, ON, K0B 1R0 Phone: 613-678-5455 Upcoming Events Visit us on Facebook October 1 Dear St. Jude families and friends, Fall is in the air and the leaves are beginning to change... We are off to a wonderful start here at St. Jude. Thank you to all of you who came to our Meet the Teacher Open House. It was a pleasure to see you here, partners in your child s learning journey. We always look forward to meeting our parent community and continue building our partnership. We are excited as we look ahead to a great year with many opportunities for learning and growth. We hope you will feel comfortable and involved with your child s learning throughout the year. We welcome your presence at school, encourage you to become active partners in the education process, and invite you to volunteer at the school whenever possible. Please share your ideas, encouragements and concerns with us so that we can provide the best possible learning environment for your child. Students are settled into their classes, making new friends and participating in learning activities throughout the school. Should you have any questions pertaining to curriculum, classroom related content or your child s progress, please feel free to contact your child s teacher at any time. By participating in Terry Fox Marathon of Hope, we have shown what it means to be holy, always look outside of ourselves to make a difference and spread joy. Thank you for being such a supportive community! Parents and guardians, let me wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. May we be thankful for what we have, for the family we love, the friends we cherish, and for our Lord s many blessings. PA Day, Faith Day On September 28 th, all CDSBEO staff participated in a system-wide Faith Day. Our new CDSBEO Board Theme, Be Holy~ Joy Springs from a Loving Heart! is a personal call to be inspired and transformed within our intimate relationship with Jesus, and at the same time to move outside of ourselves to acts of kindness, where we respond to the call to let Jesus inspire and transform others, through us. The spiritual retreat was a wonderful way to connect, in prayer, with God. Perfection Fundraising Campaign Kids Care Club We are pleased to host our first fundraising campaign from October 2 nd to 19 th, 2018. Perfection, our partner in this campaign, has a variety of items such as original and convenient kitchen accessories, gourmet quality products and Christmas articles. Coming Soon: The Flu Season! With the flu season just around the corner, here s a reminder on how you can help stop spreading the flu. The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) would like to remind everyone of some simple steps that can help prevent and reduce the spread of influenza. First is the flu vaccine. It protects you and your loved ones. Increase your chances of avoiding the flu this year by getting your flu vaccine and help stop the spread of infection. Influenza immunization is available through your healthcare provider, at community health centers and participating pharmacies. You can also make an appointment at the EOHU to get your flu vaccine. Visit our website at www.eohu.ca. Then there s the importance of hand hygiene and coughing etiquette. Washing your hands properly will help prevent the spread of infections. Remind your kids to wash their hands before and after handling food, before and after eating, after using the washroom, as well as after blowing their nose, sneezing or coughing. Keep in mind that viruses and bacteria can also be spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It s therefore important to cough and sneeze into your sleeve (not your hands) or cover your mouth and nose with a tissue. Throw away used tissues in the garbage and wash your hands well. And remember keep your child home from school when he or she is sick! CDSBEO Personal Support Worker Program (PSW) A solid investment towards a promising Health Care Career! The CDSBEO Personal Support Worker (PSW) Program is a provincially accredited program that is delivered in various communities throughout our board by qualified health care providers with nursing backgrounds. Our PSW students graduate with qualifications equal to those taking a PSW program at a community college with significant cost savings. Each of our PSW programs include opportunities for various certifications, as well as the ability to earn credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Please check out our website www.coned.cdsbeo.on.ca/psw for more information. Information sessions about the PSW program for our February 2019 intake will take place on the following days and locations.
