Landgraf, Principal PARKVIEW MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Parkview Elementary School is to provide a quality educational environment that recognizes and meets the unique academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of the individual elementary student, while encouraging a positive self-image and responsible citizenship. LANDGRAF What a great start to the school year! I would like to thank our staff for their dedication, parents for commitment to education and students for working hard, doing their best and cooperating with each other. Staff, parents and students all working together is what makes Parkview such an excellent school. This is the first newsletter of the new school year. Additionally, you also receive weekly information from your child's teacher. I strongly encourage parents to take time to read the material from school and stay actively involved in your child's education. Research shows that students perform better and have more success when parents take an interest in their child's education. As a reminder regarding attendance, the Parkview school day begins promptly at 7:50 a.m. Please have your child at school early enough to allow ample time to walk to the classroom prior to the 7:50 a.m. bell. Our goal for student attendance is to be in school "on time all of the time". When the bell rings, our staff enters the building and the drop off service is concluded for the day. After the bell, parents need to drive to the main Parkview entrance and sign in the student. Thank you all very much for your support. We look forward to an outstanding school year.

2 HURRICANE RELIEF Our students participated in a hat day on September 8. Students were able to wear their favorite hat if they donated money that will go towards a classroom in Houston to repurchase supplies needed to get started again. We are working with a charity that was initiated to match schools from states outside of Texas to a school in the Houston area. Thank you to our students and families for donating almost $2,000 to help support these schools affected by the hurricane.

3 STUDENT ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES If your child is ill or will be late for any reason, (including dentist or doctor appointments), please call and leave a message on the attendance voice mailbox by 8:00 am. Please note, when sending your student s teacher an or note about an absence, it is also necessary to notify the office. This saves the office from making an interrupting phone call to the classrooms in the morning. If you wish to take your child out of school for an appointment, please call or send a note to the office. For the safety of our students, all visitors are to report to the office when entering the building. At that time, we will call your child to the office and you may sign him or her out of school. Communication between home and school is essential and we appreciate your cooperation. IMPORTANT NEWS FROM FOOD SERVICE Parents have access to view lunch account balances by logging into their Skyward Family Access account and opening up the tab under Food Service. Lunch account payments can also be completed on this site with a credit card. A $2.50 service charge will be assessed when using this method of payment. Parents are still able to send a check in an envelope to the school office to make lunch account payments. Thank you, Lora Glowacki, SNS Food Service Director

4 NEWS FROM THE NURSE Welcome back to everyone, returning and new students!! Transitioning from summer break into the school year is an exciting time!! Flu season will be here before we know it! To minimize the spread of the flu and other diseases, please remember we all need to follow some simple guidelines The Three C s. 1. CLEAN - Wash your hands with soap and water, especially after sneezing, coughing, or blowing your nose!! Soap and water are the best, but hand sanitizer should be used until soap and water are available. 2. COVER - Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing. Use a tissue, dispose of the tissue immediately, and wash your hands with soap and water. Avoid touching your hands to your nose, eyes or mouth. 3. CONTAIN - IF YOU ARE SICK, STAY HOME!!! The best way to prevent the spread of disease is to avoid contact with sick individuals. Please follow school guidelines for returning to school, which means staying home until fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin and 24 hours free of vomiting/diarrhea. Following these simple guidelines can help us keep our school healthy!! Flu shots are also recommended. Get Ahead of the Flu Season and Get a Flu Vaccine!! This year students will need to get their flu shot through their own provider or from the following locations listed below. ~ Make your call today!! CVS (age 14 & older) The Medicine (age 14 & older) The Monroe County Health , PTA NEWS All parents are invited to join PTA to support the schools! The next meeting will be held on Tuesday,Nov 14 at The Falls at 7PM. We currently have approximately 80 members and are still looking for more! The Fall Festival and Christmas Crafts events are chaired and being planned but we could always use helping hands for future events. BOX TOP COLLECTION The Box Top Committee is starting up our Fall collection. Parents please continue to cut out those box tops and send to school by Friday, September 29. If you don t have many, don t worry, we will do a second collection in January so keep cutting and saving so you re ready to send them in after the holidays! This is easy money for the school and doesn t cost you anything but a few minutes to cut off box tops and labels.

5 PTA will keep a running total for the school year for each class so that our "winning" class at each grade level will receive a Donut Party in the Spring. Thank you for your help! We love to get money for our schools! Thank you to the Columbia School District Foundation for their generous donation to purchase ten HOKKI stools at Parkview.
