THE FIRST THREE DIMENSIONAL EXERCISE MACHINE!! "YOU MOVE LIKE THIS - YOU SHOULD TRAIN LIKE THIS"( ) DESIGN AND APPLICATION Imagine a machine that's a blend of Yoga, Pilates, Thai Chi, Strength Training, Stretching and Cardio! Imagine a machine designed solely upon the human body's organic skeletal system, namely the ball and socket joints of the shoulders and hips, the human arms and the radial hinges of the wrists and forearms while offering constant, consistent resistance, as well as Rotational Torque, through all planes of motion at the same time. This is the purest form of movement. IT'S HERE! THE ORBITAL 360 The Orbital 360 is the FIRST and ONLY 3 Dimensional, adjustable, constant, consistent resistance, multiplane, cross training apparatus that has revolutionized current fitness standards by re-writing a new and safer, thus becoming a better, way to exercise. This apparatus is also the first and only Functional Core Stability device used for Stretch, Strength and Cardiovascular exercises combined. The user need never leave the machine to accomplish all three planes of movement. No other fitness product on the market can compare. Because of the design and function of the Orbital 360 it can be used to simulate training for a multitude of sports such as tennis, baseball, swimming, skiing, running, martial arts, boxing, aerobics and many others. So easy to use, the mechanism of The Orbital 360 is designed to provide the user with constant and consistent resistance throughout all planes of movement by simply using the ball of the foot to press on the adjustment knob attached to the colored balls at the bases of the telescopic handles to increase or decrease the resistance. The Orbital 360's superior design allows the user to work areas of the body that cannot be easily reached with traditional machines or free weights - the ability to perform rotational movement with constant, consistent resistance both behind and in front of the body. It also allows the entire body to twist and turn safely without adding stress to the spine. This process is what is known as True Rotational Torque. Since the body is not limited to repeated movements like it is when using existing exercise machines such as treadmills, cross trainers, stationary bicycles etc. the amount of repeated physical stress associated with most cardiovascular exercise equipment is eliminated. The Orbital 360 is manufactured in Northridge, CA USA, using Aircraft Grade aluminum and steel materials in its construction and offers a full life time warranty. 2
Medical: Because of the constant, consistent friction resistance of the Orbital 360 there is no risk of compression stress or crushing force, which can be damaging to brittle bones. There is virtually no joint stress and no chance of damaging growth plates. The stresses places upon the bones with traditional equipment only provide stress in a single plane of movement. The Orbital 360 which moves in multiple planes with rotational resistance causes multiple planes of stress which creates denser bones. Physical stress causes bone cells to make new bone. (WOLF'S LAW NEW BONE IS LAID DOWN ALONG THE LINES OF STRESS) Since the body is not limited to repeated movements like it is when using existing exercise machines such as treadmills, cross trainers, stationary bicycles etc. the amount of repeated physical stress associated with most cardiovascular exercise equipment is eliminated. The ability to perform exercise above the heart is extremely valuable to the recovery of cardiac patients. With traditional equipment, the antagonist group works statically to stabilize the working muscles. Given the ability to work both agonist and antagonist muscle groups helps to provide a balance of strengthening and musculoskeletal structure which has never been offered before in any exercise product. This dynamic training increases the body's structural integrity supporting optimal performance while training for sports. It prevents injury and delivers results in less time than traditional linear equipment. These versatile exercise capabilities re-write the current standards of fitness, rehabilitation and sports conditioning. Recent development in the fields of Exercise Science and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation have shown that functional training and core conditioning are very important methods of exercise for balanced programming. Musculoskeletal rehabilitation and injury prevention: those suffering from common musculoskeletal ailments including low back, hip and shoulder pain, carpel tunnel syndrome and other physical problems will benefit rapidly from zero impact therapeutic capabilities of the Orbital 360. Risk of injury is decreased dramatically with the Orbital 360. The design of the machine contrasts traditional resistance exercises which forces the individual into isolated movement patterns. These patterns are not based on the individual's own mechanics but are dictated either by the machine or by gravity, placing significant stress on the joints. With the Orbital 360, since the resistance is friction based, no load is placed on the body because resistance is only provided when the individual uses the handles based upon their own ability. 3
Technology: Orbital Technology: Rewriting the standards of fitness and rehab Orbital technology is unique in both its structure and function. It's concept has been crafted after the body's own ball & socket joint mechanism. This type of design provides the Orbital 360 with its variable movement patterns as well as it's adjustable friction based resistance components. The motion capabilities of the Orbital 360 include both linear and rotational movements. This is especially significant as virtually all traditional exercise against resistance employs linear movements that involve a "lifting" and "lowering" phase and is more isolative to the muscle group(s) being exercised. Although this is the current standard of exercise execution, this in no way replicates accurately the way the body moves from a functional standpoint. The ball and socket mechanism of Orbital 360 technology provides for multi-dimensional rotational and linear motion against constant and consistent resistance. This allows the body to be exercised against resistance throughout multiple planes concurrently and involves entire kinetic chains of muscle groups and body regions which is much more functional to the way the body performs, naturally. To truly appreciate the innovation of the Orbital, it is important to examine the current standards of classification regarding fitness and rehab equipment in order to substantiate the Orbital's unique qualities. Beginning with exercise, the traditional classifications of exercise can be broken down into 3 distinct categories; Isokinetic, Isometric and Isotonic,. Each category is defined as follows. Isokinetic exercise refers to exercise performed on specific machines that provide variable resistance, but regardless of the exertion an individual puts out, the speed of the movement is constant, hence the term, Isomeaning "equal" or "same" and "Kinetic" referring to motion. The 1980's and early '90's saw an infusion of Isokinetic exercise programs in many fitness and rehab centers, however anecdotal evidence eventually showed the benefits to be negligible. For example the U.B.E (Upper Body Ergometer), which has the ability to adjust the speed or RPM s. Isometric exercise is a form of exercise which involves the static contraction of a muscle without movement in the angle of the joint associated with that muscle. The word "isometric" combines the word "Iso" (same) with "metric" (distance), meaning that in these exercises the length of the muscle does not change. This type of exercise is usually done by applying pressure to a fixed object such as a door way or wall where tension in the muscle is created without any movement. Studies have shown that isometric exercise is effective in increasing strength in muscles, but that strength is limited to the specific angles that the joint is in when the exercises are performed rather than an overall strengthening effect. 4
Isotonic exercise refers to the "equal tone" or fixed resistance, a term that is traditionally associated with free weights, weight machines or elastic device training. The premise is that the resistance that a muscle is working against remains the same as it moves throughout a range of motion, usually through a linear plane involving concentric and eccentric contractions. The joint angles change as a movement is performed. Isotonic exercise has shown to have the greatest overall benefit to muscle strengthening and has been the standard for both fitness and rehab for many years. Due to factors such as leverage, vectors, and gravity, however, the resistance that the muscles works against in isotonic movements, in practice, does NOT remain constant as the term would suggest. There is a relative variation of resistance throughout the range of motion due to those factors mentioned above (leverage, angels, etc). Although the resistance being employed may be constant, it actually changes relative to joint angles as the individual moves throughout the lifting and lowering phases of traditional exercise. The Orbital 360 technology can be considered a true example of isotonic exercise as you have a situation where the resistance, once set, remains constant and consistent as one moves throughout any range of motion. It is not effected by leverage, vector or gravity because the resistance is created from friction rather than being gravity-based. Due to the mechanics of the machine itself, the Orbital 360 does not provide linear-type resistance. It can provide not only constant and consistent resistance (versus variable) but can also do so throughout multiple planes concurrently.. The speed of motion varies according to the user, thus is not Isokinetic and can be classified as pure isotonic exercise. Furthermore, anecdotally, Orbital 360 technology has proven to provide a significantly more functionallydeveloped strength and stability for the individual user, since the body is being exercised regionally and more synergistically where entire kinetic chains are being engaged, rather than the traditional isotonic exercise which is isolative and linear in application. In consideration of its unique properties, the Orbital 360 can be classified as a non-measuring medical exercise device, effectively configured to address wheelchair bound individuals as well as those with physical and functional challenges. A number of syndromes that have been effectively treated to date include lower back pain, shoulder pain, tennis elbows, arthritic wrists and musculoskeletal pain of the hip joints, to name a few. With this in mind, it can certainly be asserted that the Orbital 360 technology does, in fact re-write the current accepted standards of both functional fitness and rehab as well. Its unique structural and functional qualities will change the way in which both rehab and fitness dynamics are viewed. The application of how we improve fitness and restore function must be in alignment synergistically with the body's own functional dynamics and the Orbital 360 technology is most congruent with these principles than any other machines or methods to date. 5
Testimonials: Testimonial from Dr. Foster, New York "I really love this machine...the exercises it can do, as far as working through a range of motion with resistance, are really innovative and effective. It allows me to do activities with patients that I can't do with other equipment or bands. And patients love it, which means that they keep their appointments, they get better, and they refer their families and friends. Everybody wins." Testimonial from Dr. David Lipman, Chiropractor "My practice was always had a heavy concentration on rehabilitative procedures combined with Chiropractic Care. I had a traditional understanding and belief in the accepted methodologies and equipment used in the physical therapy capacities. Upon my initial exposure to the concept of The Orbital 360, I had a proverbial "Ah- Ha moment" realizing that the premise alone behind the design of The Orbital 360 stood to be perhaps the most significant breakthrough in rehabilitative philosophy, art and science that had been introduced. The fact that the technology was fashioned after the body's own ball and socket joint which promoted a direct dynamic of function between the machine and the individual, in my mind would foster a system of rehabilitation and fitness, that for the first time worked in true synergy with the actual kinetics of the musculoskeletal system's biomechanics. And in practice, that is exactly what I had found anecdotally with dozens of patients and clients in both a rehab and fitness capacities. The impact of The Orbital 360 on the correction of musculoskeletal dysfunction had been unlike any of the traditional methodologies I had experienced to date. I had numerous occasions, including my very first patient exposure, where an individual presented in an acute exacerbated state with a hip or shoulder pain syndrome, had IMMEDIATE reduction of symptoms following a 10 minute session with The Orbital 360. In addition, patients with chronic pain syndromes including Rotator Cuff, Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow), Medial Epicondylitis (Golfer's Elbow), Mid, Lower back and hip were all becoming resolved within 2-4 treatments with the Orbital 360. In 1 case, an 86 year old female patient who had been suffering from frozen shoulder syndrome for 6 months and was never able to obtain greater than 10 degrees of abduction from traditional methods had an immediate increase of about 25 degrees following the first treatment and 65 degrees in both abduction and flexion after the second treatment with the Orbital 360. The Orbital 360 also had, in 1 particular case, promoted an increase of bone density in a patient who had Osteoporosis about 17% over her previous reading 6 months prior. That same patient had, for the previous 6 months to that been doing traditional weight-bearing exercise and improved only 4% from the bone density scan administered 6 months before. The Orbital 360 was the only exercise device being used for the latter 6 month period prior to the 17% increase. From just this anecdotal evidence combined with my own personal experiences using The Orbital 360, I feel additional studies will reveal yet other incredible results in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction syndromes and will eventually re-write the current standards of fitness and rehabilitation." 6
