Dave Tucker President From the President Calendar photo by Roy Burnett Where does the time go? How can 2017 be over already? Hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season with family and friends. Hopefully the white Christmas didn t spoil any plans. Snow is pretty but it belongs in the mountains! Looks like our calendar sales were very successful again. Thanks to all who participated in this fund raiser. Be sure to turn in any money you still have at our meetings on January 8 and 10. We have scheduled a vision and hearing screening training session for Saturday, January 13 from 9 to noon in the hobby room at Harbor Place. Many of you have already let me know you can attend. It s not too late to let me or Sharon know you are coming. This training will enable us to offer this service to local elementary schools. As we look ahead to the next six months of the LION S year there is not much on the calendar. We need to think about other ways we can SERVE our community. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Speakers are scheduled for our January meetings. Let me know if you have any ideas or can provide a program. We will not be helping FISH food bank in January. The next collection will be February 3. As always be thinking of someone you can invite to join us as WE SERVE our community.

, Cover by Diane Fetzner At January 8th & 10th meetings, I will have whatever calendars are left for our club members to take and stock their retail outlets one last time. Around the end of January we will bring in all the plastic boxes and free-standing signs at retail outlets. Leave the calendars if they will allow. Bring collected money to the next meetings. Total donations received to date are approximately $5400. Thanks for your participation in this very successful fundraiser! Your hard work and enthusiasm are truly appreciated! From Membership Chair, Sue Schmidt: Do you have an elevator speech ready? We've all been asked by someone 'What do the Lions do?'. Here's a standard reply, but you should make up one to suit your own idea of what we do: Our Lions Club is a service group of men and women interested in improving their community. One of our projects is the Finholm View Climb. We also support the schools by handing out Student Dictionaries to all the 3rd graders, and offer scholarships to deserving seniors. We also participate in Global concerns through Lions International, such as eliminating measles worldwide. We meet at Harbor Place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. If you would like to come on the I'll introduce you and you can see more of what we do. Would you like me to pick you up? Practice on your spouse or best friend, they might surprise you and join us in lionism! Earn a Commemorative Centennial Coin!! The top five Lions who recruit new members in District C will receive a commemorative coin at the annual convention. The new members must be entered into MyLCI by April 15, 2018.

Sue Schmidt request that you bring items to the January meetings for the Veterans of our area. Sue s contact for the Homeless Veterans is Larry Geringer, who will see that the Vets get first choice of any donations.

President's Message Dear Club Leader, The end of the year is a time for giving thanks and celebrating holidays with friends and family. For many of us, this is a cherished time of year, but for the over 800 million people who go to bed hungry every night, it can be an especially hard time. That s why I m asking your club to make the holidays brighter for our neighbors in need. Celebrate the generosity of Lions by planning a project to help hungry children and families in your community. And if your club is looking to make an even bigger difference, consider giving to Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). For nearly 50 years, our foundation has helped bring lasting hope to people in need around the world. In fact, LCIF is one of the best ways to turn money into service. As Lions, we have so much to be thankful for. Join me in celebrating an amazing year of accomplishments by putting the Power of Service to work in your club. Sincerely, Dr. Naresh Aggarwal Your International President To follow my travels around the world and see our global service in action, follow me on Facebook. You can make a difference by joining the Worldwide Week of Service to Fight Hunger this January 8-14. So start planning today!

Jubilation Ringers entertained. Ruth Peterson substituted with the group. Bill McMonnies hammed with the group! Moose received the coveted car award for the most time spent at the post office out in the cold! Members and guests gathered to have a nice dinner and support the club auction and raffle. Long time member Harry Dearth is pictured in this group.
