About the NHS 10 year plan

The NHS 10 year plan is about: Cancer services Services for heart and lung health Mental health services Learning disability and autism services And other vital services for children, young people, working age adults and older people

What we are doing to write the plan Health care for people with a learning disability, autism or both will be an important part of the plan This is an exciting opportunity! We have to finish the planning by the Autumn of 2018 We are working with people and families, staff and partners to get our part of the plan right We are having lots of meetings about it up to the end of September 8

The NHS leads for learning disability and autism: Ray James Ray is the national director for learning disability at NHS England. Dr Jean O Hara Jean is the national clinical director for learning disability at NHS England. She is also a consultant psychiatrist at South London and the Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Rob Webster Rob is the chief executive at the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. 9

What is important for the NHS in 10 years time for autistic people or people with learning disabilities? Some things to think about: What do we want the NHS to be like? How will people act? What will be in place? 10

The big ideas 12

Building on what s already there For example: Autism strategy or plan Transforming Care LeDeR learning how to stop people from dying earlier than others Annual health checks 13

Putting the plan together #LTPConversations

Possible Themes and Words We know how we talk about this matters We have started working on the big things the plan should focus on. We have also started working on the words we will use. We want your help to get these right.

Possible parts or themes of the plan 1. Better start 2. Better health 3. Better care 4. Better lives 5. Better value 6. All means all Do your ideas fit into these themes? Are they the right themes?

1. Better Start - early life What are the most important things that must happen for children, young people and families?

2. Better Health What needs to be in place so people can live a longer, healthier life? What are the most important things?

3. Better Care all health services What will make the biggest difference to people s care across all health services?

3. Better Care specialist care What will help make sure people get good specialist help if they need it?

4. Better Lives Better lives go together with healthier lives What should the NHS be doing about the things that help make a good life job, friends Are these the right things? What is the most important?

5. Better Value What are the most important things to spend NHS money on? What will make the biggest difference to people with a learning disability, autism or both?

6. All means all What must the NHS do to understand and include people, treating them fairly? What is the most important thing?

So what do we do? Some things to think about: For people with learning disabilities what would you start doing, stop doing, do more of? For autistic people what needs to start or be built on? 24

What must be built on? What is working now or what needs to be in place to get there? 27

Next steps Thank you for all your ideas All the feedback will help with the draft plan We have to say how much it will all cost The NHS and the government will say if the plan is OK. They make the final decision. We will get a fixed amount of money This might affect how much we can do, but we will do as much as we can The plan will start in 2019 If you think of anything else, you can take part again online: www.engage.england.nhs.uk/consultation/developing-thelong-term-plan-for-the-nhs Email england.improvinghealthquality@nhs.net Website /learningdisabilities Twitter #LTPConversations 28
