FITWORK Jarosław Tokarczyk, Ph.D. Eng. Dariusz Michalak, Ph.D Eng. KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology Pilot test 2 Poland

Objectives of the presentation Overview of KOMAG Institute. Role of KOMAG in FitWork project. Types of exercises. Monitoring visits and devices. How to improve the implementation of the program. Mobile application.

Overview of KOMAG Institute Scope of activity. The KOMAG scope of activity includes scientific, research and development projects in the domain of minerals mining and processing as well as environment protection and work safety connected with them, but also air and ground surface protection, waste management and an adaptation of research results for a practical implementation and their dissemination in other natural and technical sciences. 200 employees

Overview of KOMAG Institute scope of activity development of solutions for industry, mainly minerals mining and processing design and tests of technical objects, processes ergonomics and safety environment protection identification and tests of mechanical, physical and chemical properties of objects (of everyday and industrial use) children articles: prams, toys, playground equipment, etc. (e.g. chemical content, compliance with standards and regulations) products intended to have contact with food (e.g. chemical content) objects used in industry (e.g. compliance with documentation, identification of defects by nondestructive methods) AREAS surgery - properties of tools and implants, and working ergonomics surgery tools and implants - assessment of prototypes ergonomic diagnosis management of environment in industrial and urbanized areas (working and natural environment) vibroacoustic hazards acoustic maps solutions for overcomming or reducing vibroacoutic problems: acoustic screens, sound absorbing-and-isolating shields and casings, silencers, sound absorbing-and-isolating and lector cabins, vibroisolation of objects, machines and equipment energy certificates for buildings, flats and commercial objects are issued; energy audits

Overview of KOMAG Institute structure of employment

KOMAG Institute Role in FitWork project End-user of developed Workplace Health Promotion Programs (WHPP) Implementation and monitoring of the Program (October 2017 March 2018)

KOMAG Institute types and intensity of exercises Worker personal preferences; Time and space available; Fitness level; Ergonomic risks / disorders. Stage 1 (beginner level): 15-30 effort + 45-30 rest Individual cadence / intensity Focus on posture during the exercise 5-10 workout (1-3 x circuit; total time: 5-30 ) Stage 2 (intermediate level): 40 effort + 20 rest 10-20 workout (1-2 x circuit; total time: 10-40 ) Stage 3 (advanced level): 45 effort + 15 rest Increasing the number of repetitions + complexity of the exercises 15-20 workout (2-3 x circuit; total time: 30-60 ) General Guidelines of the fitness program

KOMAG Institute cardiovascular circuits One circuit: 100 meters along the corridor. Six floors. 220 steps. ~ 4 min. Two circuits a day

KOMAG Institute strengthening and stretching exercises Exercises were performed three times a week at the offices ~ 15 minutes

KOMAG Institute Monitoring visits 20.06.2017 visit of specialists from IBV Institute (Spain) identification of ergonomic hazards. 12-14.09.2017 visit of specialists from the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and the Technical University of Eindhoven (the Netherlands) measurements before starting the training program and instructing the correct performing the exercises. 9.03.2017 visit of specialists from the University of Coimbra measurements at the end of the training program. 27.03.2017 visit of specialist from Technical University of Eindhoven interview.

Additional devices for monitoring MI Band activity tracker Good to monitor 24/7 physical activity including sleeping stages. Easy to use because it is light and small and equipped with long-lasting battery. Helps in motivation vibration signal if you reach your daily goal (e.g. 8.000 steps). Getting to know your maximum heart rate (HRmax) and resting heart rate (RHR). Very useful application that includes specialist tools dedicated for different types of activity (e.g. running, cycling or swimming), so it could be uses also after the working time. Garmin vívoactive HR monitor Bigger but better equipped than MI Band, e.g. high-resolution display and GPS. You do not need mobile phone during performing exercises. More accurate than MI Band. Sensor mat It reminds you to do exercises. Good for performing exercises for back and gives some relax. The connected application indicates how to do the exercises properly.

The positive things and aspects regarding the WHPP in KOMAG Institute General opinions: Increased knowledge about the risks associated with sedentary lifestyle and obesity. Employees mental change regarding the fact that physical exercises can also be performed during office work. Increased efficiency of work as a result of performing physical exercises during the working day. Interest of the colleagues who were not involved in implementation of the FitWork project. The ability to perform dedicated exercises as a response to existing and identified threats to the musculoskeletal system. Positive opinions after six months of doing the exercises: Improvement of physical condition. Mutual motivation within the office. The possibility of using office furniture to perform exercises. Development of training plans taking into account the level of physical fitness of the exercisers. Improvement of mental health (e.g. less headaches, happier feelings).

Lesson learned - Appendix Guidelines of the fitness program to ensure correct implementation of exercises Garmin vívoactive HR monitor MI Band activity tracker to help tracking and motivate the participants Sensor mat Physical activity diary

FITWORK Helper Android application Available for ANDROID devices Measuring exercices time (total time and times of individual exercises) Presenting photo and descriptions of all exercices (simple navigation in exercises) Functionality that allows you to send a report with exercises times Reminder about treshold short info if exceeding the threshold or not
