13 December 2018 Issue 122 POP UP NEWS Mapleton, Queensland Merry Christmas everyone. Do have a relaxing and safe Festive Season and all the best for the New Year. Pop up news is having a short holiday. Expect an edition in the second or third week of January. Montville Rose The Duchesse de Brabant "This rose adopted as the Montville Rose by the town of Montville in Queensland. It dates back to 1857 and apparently it was a favourite of Teddy Roosevelt". BUT How and why was this rose selected as the rose for Montville? No one seems to know for sure which pioneer brought the rose - but cuttings were soon shared amongst the womenfolk and flourished in their infant gardens to such an extent that it was referred to as the Montville Rose even before the twentieth century. Looking for that special gift to give this year please consider local products: Recipe book, colouring book or a calendar. Photo Caption

Exciting news for the residents of Mapleton, Flaxton, and Montville: a new Lions Club will be formed on this end of the Blackall Range in early 2019. The Maleny Blackall Range Lions Club have been involved in several projects at our end of the Range, and now are sponsoring a new club. Once there are sufficient numbers, the initial Club Branch will charter to become a fully independent club, providing greater opportunity for community involvement and a wider range of local projects. A community information evening at the Mapleton Bowls Club is planned for Thursday 7 th February 6:30 pm for a 7:00 pm start. For further information about Lions and the proposed new club call Peter on 0434 070 232 Lions Maleny and Blackall Range Club have recently raised and donated in the western Queensland $26,195.08.
