Welcome Karl Schaller Head of Neurosurgical Unit Geneva, Switzerland Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Geneva University Hospital (HUG) and the SWISS Foundation for Innovation and Training in Surgery (SFITS), we have the great opportunity to organise a basic spine course reserved to young neurosurgeons and we are delighted to invite you! This two-day course is intended to be the basis for all young neurosurgeons who are interested in developing surgical skills and techniques necessary for operating with confidence and improving patient care in spine surgery. The course From simulation to cadaver workshop is a spine surgery course allowing beginner residents to learn by theoretical sessions, simulation and cadaver workshop the basis of spine surgery in a safe and ultra modern environment. The faculty will closely supervise and actively engage with you throughout the training. On behalf of our team and our partners, we hope to welcome you to this fruitful hands-on course. Course description The two-day program consists of lectures, live/recorded case studies and group discussions with a particular focus on hands-on experience. The course is comprehensive of: cadavers, workstations, Realist modules and Medability Symbone simulators. The participants will be limited to a number of 20 in order to provide each participant the opportunity to meaningfully engage with the faculty. Audience The course is open for junior neurosurgeon residents (1st-3rd years of specialization). Objectives Get a clear overview of basic spine surgical techniques; Discuss and debate patient selection and contraindications; Gain a thorough understanding of pre-operative imaging; Practice positioning of pedicular screws; Discuss case studies with expert faculty. By the end of the program, participants will have a deep knowledge on: the surgical indications for disc herniation, lumbar stenosis and spondylolisthesis the surgical approach for disc herniation and lumbar stenosis and the open and percutaneous positioning of thoracic and lumbar pedicular screws. Accreditation by Swiss Society of Neurosurgery: 16 credists The course is done under the auspices of EANS, SYNS and Swiss Society of Spinal Surgery
