Issue: 18 Date: 27 Jan 2017 As ever, the weeks seem to have flown past; January is finishing already and half term is suddenly getting closer. This term is always frantic; it's much shorter than the other two, but we have just as much to fit in. Year 5 will visit St Michael's to see their performance of West Side Story- I would go with them, but I know it will make me cry too much. Meanwhile, year 1 will visit Pizza Express; that's dinner sorted! One of the points raised in our last Parents forum was around homework. I have asked the Middle Leadership team to review this policy and as part of this, we would like to ask you to complete a very short questionnaire. This will be sent out separately, so please look out for it in your in-box. Finally some sad news! After over 20 years, Mrs Preece will be retiring at half term. She has played an invaluable role in our office, making sure that the dinner money adds up- and I can assure you that that is no mean feat! We can only assume that our loss is the Scouting Association's gain and wish her many happy years of bracing walks, excellent camping and victorious tennis matches. Week commencing 30th January at Sacred Heart Monday 30 January Feast of Mary Ward children in this house to wear an item of purple. Tuesday 31 January 1J Workshop at Pizza Express Wednesday 1 February Rewards Assembly J Side (FSJ parents invited) Wednesday 1 February Y6 Boys Football Tournament Finals Wednesday 1 February Y5 watching West Side Story performance at St. Michael s Friday 3 February 1J Class Assembly Parents invited Foundation Stage children will now join our rewards assembly on a Wednesday. We alternate A/J side each week and parents are invited

Top Table Stars The A side top table stars on Wednesday 25 January were: Sophie, Anthony, Taigh, Ariella, Ellie- Rose, Tilly, Liliana, Federico, Chloe, Lucas, Olivia, Shannon, Azaria, Timothy. Congratulations to all our Top Table Stars and thank you for keeping our Golden Rules and showing kindness to your friends. Reminders Wednesday 1 February Y6 Football Your child should arrive in school dressed in their kit and ready to leave promptly at 8.40am and be back in time for lunch. Please ensure they have their uniforms to change into once they re back in school. Wednesday 1 February Y5 watching a West Side Story performance at St. Michael s from 2pm till 4pm. Parents should collect their children from St. Michael s. Easter Play Dates for your diary Wednesday 29 March Year 1 Easter Play, Parents invited Friday 31 March Year 3 Easter Play, Parents invited After School Club The club is very busy so please try to pre-book well in advance to guarantee a place for your child, as we are not always able to provide a space in the event of emergency bookings. Head bumps Children always seem to bump their heads! Some are major cartoon-like bumps and some are very

minor. However, all the research shows that every bump should be noted as they can have a cumulative effect. We need to let you know if your child has had a bump to the head. This might just be to let you know, but it might be more serious. We have tried many ways of doing this, but the only way we can actually guarantee that you know is to speak to you. Letters get lost; messages don't get passed on. This is why, if your child has a bump to the head, you will be contacted. Music Tuition Summer Term 2017 Bills have gone home via the children. Under borough guidelines we have to ask for payment one term in advance. Payments need to be made by Wednesday 3 March 2017 so that we can confirm our requirements with Barnet Education Arts Trust. We encourage you to pay via Wisepay or alternatively cash or cheque (payable to Sacred Heart School). Pupil Progress Meetings Pupil progress meetings have been underway since Tuesday 10th January and will continue until 30 March. Each teacher will hold three 10 minute appointments, once a week (see details below). They will also offer evening appointments on Thursday 23 February between 4.00 and 6.00 pm for those parents unable to attend during the day. We will send home the children s books for the weekend before each meeting so that you will have had a chance to look at them thoroughly. Your child s date of birth Your title and surname The system has been live since Monday 19 December so you can book your appointment. Troubleshooting Tips - Please read before booking! If you have recently changed your title or surname, for example, and not informed us, we will be expecting you to login with the details we have on record. We strongly recommend that you enter your email address when signing in so that you receive an email confirmation of your appointment. The email address you enter is only used to send a confirmation. If the system gives you an error when you login, it will not be the email address that is the problem. If you have several children to make bookings for, use the Change Child button on the blue bar (above the school s name) in the blue bar at the top of the Parent s Booking Page to swap between your children. Please make a note of your appointment date and time. Parents Association 2017 AGM The PA are having their Annual General Meeting at The Griffin Pub on Thursday 2nd February at 8.30pm. All are welcome. Amongst other things we would be keen to hear new ideas about events, suggestions and comments about the running of the PA and will also be introducing the new PA Committee. We are very keen to make the school PA work hard over the next year to deliver some great fund raisers but to do this we need your help. Please come along to the meeting if you can offer your support as it is very much needed! HELP NEEDED Additionally, we would like to connect with any parents who are able to help with regards to the printing of the programmes that are distributed at the Fayres. We are specifically looking for a Graphic Designer and a Printer. If you are able to help, or know

someone who would be able to help, please get in contact with either Charlotte Heneghan 07795281139 or Liz Nunn 07932642901 or leave your details with the School Office.
