INTRODUCTION Egypt is ranked 123 from 135 countries in Global Gender Gap Index 2011. Percentage share of formal firms that are owned by women in Africa* Difficulty in reaching the MDGs Unemployment rate of women reached 22.7% compared to 8.9 % for men (2011) Representation in 2 Houses of Parliament is a mere 2% (2011) 41% registered for voting compared to 59% men (2010) 4 million women with no national IDs*, no access to public services, financial services and political participation. According to figures coming from the Egyptian Ministry of Interior (Enterprise Surveys, World Bank 2006-2010)

SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN Leading partner: Kijami creative social media & campaigning agency Social Media tools used: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Flickr 5,559 likes, 529 stories talking about this, 81,534 total impressions 471 followers, 840 tweets (#Million_ID)

WHY THIS INITIATIVE IS DIFFERENT Targets the whole population of women without IDs Engages Civil Society Uses Social Media for development

RESULTS SO FAR 240 temporary jobs created for female field officers, trained by 1 NGO (more to come..) Training Manual developed 20,000 forms processed 5 PSAs, 1 Jingle. 21 periodical and website coverage, and 5 TV channels coverage
