Agenda About PTT Our Vetiver Project THE APPLICATION OF THE VETIVER SYSTEM AND BIO-ENGINEERING FOR PREVENTING SOIL EROSION Case study : Yan-Ri community
Case study : Yan-Ri community
Case study : Yan-Ri community Yan-ri Yan Ri Community, Kabinburi district, Prachinburi province About the area Located in low land area Affected by flood during the raining season every year The most of local people is farmer/service Most of the areas is for agriculture Water pollution from industry During raining season, there re soil erosions affected by high-speed of currents of Pra-Prong River
Case study : Yan-Ri community: Pre-Process (2013) Soil erosion at the curve of the Pra Prong river hit the villagers s area and reducing the areas from 8 to 2 Rai (2.5293 Rai = 1 Acre), Slope = 80 ⁰- 90⁰.
Method Case study : Yan-Ri community: Pre-Process (2013) Drawing plan Pra-prong river The Yan-Ri community drew the drawing plan in the workshop and applied for construction. Drawing plan: Arrange the rubber tires and using the concrete pillars as the wall in the front of riverbank, plot the pillars row by row (terrace method). 1. Set up the area by using the backhoe, apply the slope adjustment from 12 meters into 6 meters of 2 levels of the terrace. 2. Place the 5-meter concrete pillar by using the backhoe and press the pillar as deep as possible. 3. Place the tire over the concrete pillars. Arrange the edge of tire sticking together with the concrete pillars. 4. Dig the soil (from the upper level) and fill it inside the tires. 5. Sort tires in a row along the length of the next layer (fish scale method) and fill the soil inside the tires 6. Put the eucalyptus poles inside tire s hole, use backhoe to press all tires for more stability.
Case study : Yan-Ri community : In-Process (2014) Method Planting the vetiver saplings by keeping the space about 10-15 cm in each row. Planting another local plants (eg. bamboo, Suregada multiforum )inside the tires. The tires can be the barriers to protect the river bank and also collect the soil sediment. The Eucalyptus poles provide the stable structure / fixed the tires into position. The vetiver roots are also important to fix the tires vertically.

Engineering Drawing Plan Yan Ri Community, Prachinburi
Conclusion Yan-Ri community has the capability to finish the project and has the visible success for soil erosion prevention in term of the disaster mitigation since 2014 to present. What s Next???? 2015 Action plan ; Task 2015 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 1.In-depth Data Collection (Engineering/ Botany/Social) 2.Monitoring & Evaluation 3.Developing KM/ Methodology 4.Design the drawing plan 5.Planning/ preparing for disaster 6.Maintenance/ vetiver plantation
