OECI AND A PUTATIVE EUROPEAN MISSION Thierry PHILIP President OECI October 3rd 2018, afternoon 9

ALTERNATIVE To play a role within Cancer Core Europe proposal To propose an alternative ie: OECI proposal for a Cancer Mission 10

BIG IDEA? BIG CHALLENGE? BIG PLAN? 11

BIG IDEA To translate new drugs to earlier stage of cancer Early detection of cancers and their relapses in the European population with emphasis in aging Early detection of cancer that we don t know how to cure currently (lung, pancreas, brain...) Prevention and early detection of cancer Preventing and targeting cancer epidemy To set-up a cancer registry for patients outcomes comparision in a network of 100 cancer centres A mission on pediatric cancer Quality in cancer care Hope in cancer Reduce inequqlities and lift up less well performing regions or countries To improve outcomes for all cancer patients in Europe through multidisciplinarity 12

BIG IDEA: true integrative care in cancer Institutional research of quality from doctors to technicians No loss of chances anywhere the patients knock on the door BIG CHALLENGE Networks around CCCs To build a European cancer ecosystem PLAN To define at least one CCC / Country To identify one network each 5 to 10 Millions inhabitants 14

WE NEED TO ADD: Rare cancers (including pediatrics?) Tumours that are not yet cured Early diagnosis of primary tumours and relapses Outcomes research Governance proposals and financial issues (more to those who get less today) Research on prevention THE ABOVE CHAPTERS COULD BE PILOT STUDIES TO BE IMPLEMENTED WITHIN THE NETWORKS AROUND CCCs True integrative care in cancer with 6 or 7 Work Packages? 15

TO SET-UP A BRAINSTORMING BEFORE CHRISTMAS ON THIS PROPOSAL? TO DISCUSS WITH CCE AT THE VATICAN MEETING TO TAKE A DECISION EARLY BEFORE THE OECI 2019 ONCOLOGY DAYS IN BARI (with or w/o CCE) 16
