Tardy: None. Please note: Any council member that arrives more than 15 minutes late to the meeting will receive a tardy notice. If you will be unable to attend the next meeting please notify Julia Luna by text, email or phone call prior to your absence. 3.0 Council Business Recommendation 3.1 Mayor s Ball for the Arts Report Council member provided a report on the Mayor s Ball for the Arts that took place on Saturday, September 18, 2010. During the event volunteers supervised the silent auction items for the event and assisted as needed with additional duties. Activity Coordinator Phuong reported that overall the event was largely successful and everything ran smoothly. If you volunteered for this event your name will be listed below. Please make sure to update your Participation Tracking Sheet with the information listed below: Page 1

Event: The Mayor s Ball of the Arts (Value: 1 Participation Credit) When: September 18, 2010 Time: Shift 1-5:00 P.M.-7:15 P.M. / Shift 2-7:30 P.M. 9:30 P.M. Shift 1: 5:00-7:15pm Cindy Ready Shift 2: 7:30-9:30pm 3.2 Youth in Government Day Discussion Youth in Government Day will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 7:30 A.M. 3:15 P.M. During the event council members job shadow a Riverside County employee based on their interests and goals. All participants will receive 2 Participation Credits for attending the event. Council members are required to wear professional business attire to the event, and are expected to be on their best behavior during the program. You will be provided with a letter that can be accompanied with a parent letter for excusal from school. The registration period ended on September 13, 2010, if you have not submitted an excusal letter explaining why you will not be participating, please do so. Youth in Government Day (Value: 2 Participation Credits) When: October 20, 2010 (deadline to register is September 9, 2010) Time: 7:00 A.M. 3:30 P.M. (a light breakfast and lunch will be provided) Location: The Riverside County Parks & Open Spaces District Carriage House 4600 Crestmore Road, Riverside 92509 ** You need to make arrangements for transportation to and from the Carriage House. Council Members that have been excused from the event: Allison Aoun & Jamie Zamora, Cindy Ready. Council Members that need to register to participate or submit an excusal letter: Lorylaine Espinosa, Dezarae Hurtado. If you are registered to participate, please see the information listed above. You will receive an email reminder and phone call prior to the event. If you are registered to participate, you are required to attend the event because you will have already been paired with a mentor. In the event that you believe you will not be able to attend due to sudden illness, or emergency, please notify Julia as soon as possible. 3.3 Fall Committee Project Discussion During each season both of the committees will work on a committee project focused around their goals. Two potential committee projects were presented to the committees during the meeting for their consideration. One option that was presented was the Operation SafeHouse Stuf the Bus Event. Operation SafeHouse is a non-profit organization that provides crisis intervention for teens in Riverside County. The organization is in need of supplies in order to keep their 24 hour center open and fully operational. The second option that was presented was the Office on Aging Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) Thanksgiving basket drive. Each year the Office on Aging presents goodie baskets filled with Thanksgiving food items to less fortunate families in the that participate in the Office on Aging GRG program. Each committee met and discussed these options and will begin to plan their fall committee project during the next few committees. 4.0 Committee Discussion With Report to Follow 4.1 C.A.P.E. Report The CAPE Committee reported that they will work to coordinate a drive to support the Operation SafeHouse Stuff the Bus event. The committee hopes to write local stores in the requesting items or a donation to support the drive. Julia will work on developing a draft letter for the committee to review at the next meeting and will then submit the letter to local stores. In addition, the committee plans to collect items outside of the Walmart on Van Buren on Sunday, October 17, 2010 by shift times. Julia will contact the store and get clearance for the committee to distribute flyers as patrons enter the store. The committee also organized shift times to collect the donations, listed below. Each shift will wait until the next shift arrives in order to ensure that the collection box is secure. The shift information is pending confirmation. Julia will work on preparing a flyer for council members to distribute. Tentative shift information: Shift 1 10:30am-12:30pm Shift 2 12:30-2:30pm Shift 3 2:30-4:30pm Shift 4 4:30-6:30pm Allison Aoun Christina Favela Rachel Favela 4.2 P.E.A.C.E Report The PEACE Committee reported that they plan on hosting a drive to benefit the Office on Aging Thanksgiving Basket Drive. The committee plans to write the local Stater Brothers on Limonite Avenue as well as Mission Blvd., Albertsons, and Fresh & Easy to request donations for the drive. Julia will work on developing a draft letter for the committee to review at the next meeting and will then submit the letter to local stores. In addition, the committee plans to meet on October 16, 2010 (time to be determined) to collect items outside of the Stater Brothers on Mission Blvd. Julia will contact the store and get clearance for the committee to distribute flyers as patrons enter the store. More information on shift times to follow at the next meeting. 5.0 Presentation of Available Volunteer Opportunities / Upcoming Events 5.1 Event: The Riverside County Youth Commission Meeting (Value: 1 Participation Credit) When: September 23, 2010 Time: 5:30 P.M. 6:30 P.M Location: The County Administrative Center Board Chambers located at 4080 Lemon Street, 1 st Floor, Riverside 92502 What to Wear: This event does not require specific attire Council Photographer: N/A Page 3

Notes: Those that attend the Youth Commission meeting will listen to the discussion that occurs during the meeting. In order for you to receive credit for this event you must write up a few observations about the discussion and provide a report of your observations at the next council meeting. You will not be required to sign in or check in during this event, all that is required are your observations and your report. (dinner will be provided) Location: The Fender Center located at 365 N. Main Street, Corona 92880 What to Wear: Council Shirt, name tag & Slacks or pants Activity Coordinator: To Be Announced (directions will be given by Mike Williams) Notes: This is a very important event for Supervisor Tavaglione. If you are volunteering please be polite and courteous at all times. You will be directed by Mike Williams upon arrival at the Fender Center.
