From the Board Welcome back to all our Snowbirds. Always so much to do and see in the area many of us call home. Another wonderful fun- packed season has started. The committees are all starting to meet and thinking about new things to do this year. So many of us have been here all year and those who have been here have contributed to keeping our park going. We have had many changes from assistant managers to leaseholders leaving. Our family members that have decided to leave will be missed. Now it will be time for the rest of us to step up and fill their shoes can't say enough wonderful things about being on the Board. I thought I knew a lot about the park and the running of this new home, but, boy, was I wrong. I truly do love being on the Board. So many wonderful members and a great way to meet new people. I will say there are difficult decisions to make, but just like having your family home, you must make a decision that is the best for everyone. I have learned in life that you can't please everyone, but you can try to make the best possible decisions. If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem. I look forward to meeting our new leaseholders. If you have any questions or concerns stop by and see me or contact me. Some of us always volunteer to do things or just fill in when needed. The Yard Sale is Saturday, November 3 rd, please donate items, this is one of our big money makers of the season. We will have regular activities at the clubhouse, Bingo, Movies, dinners and breakfasts. Any addition to the Calendar can be submitted to Pam Sanor at Lot 178 or 520609-5199. News Flash: Pumpkin/Rock Arch Update! The mysterious connection between Rock Arches and plump, orange pumpkins has happened once again! You may recall previous accounts of this strange phenomenon in the past. The rock arch in Area 51 (oops Lot 51) of our co-op has a plump, perfectly cute, orange pumpkin beneath it. It appeared without warning or explanation! Take a look the next time you go by. I notified Charlie Brown in Cartoon Land again but he apparently has no similar occurrences in his pumpkin patch that he will share with us. I have consulted with plant experts but they have no explanation forthcoming since rocks have no DNA like pumpkins. My limited, retired rocket scientist expertise sheds no further light on the subject. So for the time being, the Space Alien theory is a leading contender. However, it could be that we have many fun-loving, kind and considerate leaseholders in our park! What do you think? Foster Children and Special Needs Seniors Christmas For 15 years our Co-op has had a fund raiser in November for Benson s foster children and some special needs adults. We get Santa wish lists for the children from Child Protective Services (CPS) and the committee tries very hard to fulfill those wishes. The quilters have been making a quilt for each child new to the foster care system. Jean Rogers has been crocheting stocking caps for every child. In December, we have a big wrapping party in the CH so everyone can participate in the fun. These gifts are then given to CPS and the caseworkers take them to the foster parents to put under the tree on Christmas morning. Watch for the kick-off on Channel 5! Cactus Wrens Update Welcome back. Hope you all had a good summer. We here at Saguaro Park did have a hot summer. Thanks to Mary Nighswander we had four pot luck dinners. I would like to thank Bruce Radciiff and Gene Lavielle for their time and effort in remodeling the chair cabinet in the clubhouse. Our new chairs now fit in the cabinet. Our first fund raiser is the Nov 3rd YARD SALE. PLEASE come out and help Shirley Groth and Virgnina Marek to make this sale a success. Also, at the yard sale the Cactus Wrens well be selling donuts, cookies and water. Cactus Wrens well need two new members to join the Cactus Wrens Board starting January 2019 These positions are Treasure in Training and Vice President. On October 11th Cactus Wrens General Meeting Pam Sanor was nominated for the Vice President. Marcia Shields lot 314 has volunteered to do the kitchen Laundry. Thank You Marcia. Some of our Monday evening dinners and Saturday breakfasts, will be served by St David Hight School and Benson Hight School. Both schools teach Culinary Class. They will receive $4.00 per tickets sold. This money is for the cost of the food and then the children get a % of that cost for them to use on trips. So Please check your calendar and channel 5 for the sales date of the tickets as they have changed. Please all committees think about your budget for the season of 2019. Ice Cream Social First Sunday in November Welcome all Saguaro Residents & Guest to our 1st Ice Cream Social of the Season: Sunday, November 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse to celebrate the birthdays and/or anniversaries for November and May. These lucky folks receive a free scoop of ice cream. All others pay 50 cents per scoop. We begin at 7:00 p.m. sharp. Come early and bring your bowl and spoon. We appreciate you paying with coins or small bills. Looking forward to seeing you at the Ice Cream Social. We offer 5 assorted flavors of ice cream, including a sugar free, and will serve various sweet treats provided by our wonderful volunteer Saguaro Bakers. Special Thanks to all the Volunteers and Bakers who make this a fun and delightful event. Betty Lenneman Propane Sales The start of another season also means the start-up of Propane Sales here in the park. Until the weather turns cooler propane will be pumped one day a week on Mondays. For customers who want to drop-off their tanks they may do so prior to 9:00 am. In order for us to fill drop-off tanks a check or cash must be attached to the tank and the tank must clearly be marked with a name and/or lot number. For those who would prefer to drive-up and stay with their tanks, the hours are 9:00 10:00. When the weather turns colder we will start pumping two mornings each week Mondays and Thursdays. There are times when the lines can get long but if you are in line by 10:00 your tanks will be filled. Due to new government regulations we are no longer able to fill any size tanks that are not current with their certification. We are no longer able to certify any tanks due to these new regulations. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our volunteers as well as your own is our utmost concern.
