November 2014 Calendar Nov 14 Nov 18 Nov 24-28 Message from the PTA President To Warwick Families, Warwick Carnival 6pm in the Warwick MUR PTA Association Meeting, 7pm in Warwick Library No School Parent Conferences & Thanksgiving Holiday I want to thank all the students, teachers, staff, parents, and those who helped make the Wizard Walk such a success. I especially want to thank Jenn G and her committee, who did a great job organizing and planning the whole event. This event helps us provide many of the activities to our children at Warwick, which otherwise might not be available to them. Please keep open the carnival date of November 14. There should be plenty of family fun at this event, which will help fund our 6th graders for science camp. I hope to see you all there! Toward the end of November, you will see order forms coming in the yellow folders, about Warwick T- shirts and zip up jackets. We will be using the same Wizard on the shirts and jackets as last year. We will be announcing the winning classrooms of the Membership Drive in the next week or two. Thank you for supporting PTA by being a member of our group. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, please come share them with us at our PTA meetings. We would like to make your time at Warwick the best it can be. Sincerely, Heidi Barnes Warwick PTA President nurseheidi@mac.com I also want to thank all the students who participated in the Reflections program; there were a lot of wonderful pieces. The submitted artwork was judged this week. We will be announcing the selections that will advance to the next level soon.

Warwick PTA Newsletter November 2014 ~ Page 2 PTA Meeting Our next PTA Association Meeting will be on Tuesday, November 18 at 7pm in the Warwick Library. We hope to see you there! Warwick Carnival Warwick s annual carnival is this week on Friday, November 14 at 6 PM Come join the Warwick Community in Warwick s Multi- Use Room for an evening of family fun. There will be carnival games, food, prizes, a cake walk, a professional photo booth, face painting, Henna, hair tinsel and much more. Admission to the Carnival is free. Game tickets and wristbands will be available for purchase at the door. Sixth Grade The 6 th Grade Team is busy working with the 6 th grade teachers to accomplish our goals for the year, and more helping hands are always welcome. Please contact Warwick6thgradeteam@gmail.com if you would like to be added to our email list, so you can stay informed about class events. We had a very successful Wizard Walk on October 23 rd. It was a fun day for all. Each grade level took a turn walking laps around the Warwick field. The kids showed lots of enthusiasm and energy. Warwick students walked a total of 1365 miles!! That s an average of over 1.5 miles per student. Hopefully your student came home with a lap card to show you how many miles he or she walked. Thank you to all the students who participated and to all the families and friends who donated money to help us surpass our fundraising goal. We are happy to report that we raised over $25,000 for Warwick this year. Thank you also to all the volunteers who donated their time to make this event possible and to our corporate sponsors for donating prizes and supplies. Warwick PTA Newsletter November 2014 ~ Page 3 Calling all Photographers! M.A.G.I.C. at Warwick Music, Art, & Geography In Concert Hello Warwick Families! The first of our five M.A.G.I.C. lessons was well received by Warwick s students and teachers. The art projects all came out beautifully, with each piece unique to the child who created it. Did any of your children tell you any of the interesting things they learned about Japan? This month we will start our second lesson cycle by exploring the rain forest of Puerto Rico. There is a lot to learn about this Caribbean paradise, which is actually an unincorporated territory of the United States. We will be experimenting with a new medium for our art project, which is always fun for the kids. As always, parents are welcome to participate in the M.A.G.I.C. program! There are ways of helping both on and off campus, in and out of the classroom. Please contact M.A.G.I.C. Chair Tara if you are interested in learning more: taratdadd@yahoo.com Join PTA PTA sponsors many activities for students, parents, and teachers throughout the school year. Please join us in making a difference. Membership is $8 per person. Please note that all members need to rejoin PTA each year. Membership forms are available in the office or on the Warwick PTA Webpage. The PTA Yearbook Committee is looking for volunteers to help take pictures for the 2014-2015 school yearbook. Pictures are needed of school events such as Wizard Walk, MAGIC, sporting events, etc., as well as candid shots around campus. If interested, please contact Donna at dmacrae@fremont.k12.ca.us Volunteer Opportunities PTA is an all- volunteer organization and we depend on the dedication of our Warwick parent volunteers to make all our activities possible. The benefits of volunteering are many and it does not require a large time commitment. In the coming months there are several new committees looking for volunteers: Movie Night (after January 1st): PTA will host two movie nights for the Warwick community. Founder s Day (February): We honor the Founders of the PTA by celebrating volunteers. Parents and Teachers can nominate people for special recognition awards. Staff Appreciation (May): This weeklong event honors Warwick s dedicated teachers and staff. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Gina, at grsass@comcast.net to be placed on the volunteer mailing list.

Warwick PTA Newsletter November 2014 ~ Page 4 Historian s Note Hello Warwick Volunteers! Thank you for donating your time to volunteer in your children's classrooms and school related activities. I want to remind you to sign in at the office, in the Volunteer binder (on the green sheets), when you come to the school to volunteer. Additionally, if you do any type of school related work outside of the school, i.e. checking homework, prepping for a class presentation, paperwork, attending meetings, computer work, making phone calls, etc., you should also put that time spent in the Volunteer binder as well OR feel free to send me a quick message with the number of hours your put in to: msng001@yahoo.com You may wonder why the collection of volunteer hours is so important. The number of hours collected is important in maintaining PTA's federal tax- exempt status as a nonprofit charitable organization. PTA must receive 1/3 of its support from the general public to maintain this status. The recorded volunteer hours are proof of this. From the number of hours submitted, the IRS publishes a figure that gives a dollar value to the volunteer hours reported. This dollar value is seen as a donation from the public to the PTA. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Clip Box Tops and earn cash for Warwick! These can be found on many of the products you buy every day. Each Box Top submitted is worth 10 cents. Also, BONUS CERTIFICATE Box Tops can be found on grocery store receipts and specially marked items. Please be on the lookout for those as well! A COLLECTION BOX IS LOCATED IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE FOR BOTH BOX TOPS AND LABELS FOR EDUCATION Cash for Class Warwick is once again participating in Cash for Class! Please collect receipts from any business at The Fremont Hub, dated August 1, 2014 or later. Drop them off in the collection box in the office, or send them to school in your child s weekly folder. Thank you again for making this a wonderful school year for our students. Remember, volunteers are the bases for a successful PTA! Michele Ng (Historian)
