Ross Sterling Middle School Physical Education 2015-2016

Ross Sterling Physical Education About our Program: We, at Ross Sterling Middle School, offer a recreational/physical education program that includes both individual and team activities. Our program implements a curriculum emphasizing health and fitness components designed to cover all of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (T.E.K.S.) objectives set forth by the Texas Education Agency. Within each class we strive to establish an atmosphere that challenges and promotes the physical / mental growth and development of each and every student. We provide the opportunities for students to acquire skills, knowledge and a positive attitude through participation in a variety of activities related to the body and its movement. Flexibility, muscular strength and aerobic endurance are the basic components of fitness that we stress. Student Participation: Each student will be required to dress out each day in his/her official P.E. uniform that will be assigned by number. The t-shirt, shorts, and combination lock will all have the same assigned number. In order to receive full credit for participation, a P.E. uniform and appropriate shoes need to be worn at all times. Students will not be allowed to participate in their school clothes that will be worn to their next class. A physician s note is needed for any medical condition that causes the student to miss more than three (3) days of any assigned activity. A parent s note will be required if a student can not participate on any given day. The student will be excused from the physical participation with a physician s or parent s note, but will still be required to dress out in the official uniform and go with his / her assigned group for the purpose of observing the activity for any demonstrations, rule changes and to understand the terminology. Equipment: A physical education uniform (t-shirt & shorts), locker, and combination lock will be issued to each student. Any loss or damage of equipment is the sole responsibility of the assigned student. There will be a replacement fee charged to the student before another uniform is issued. The replacement fees are: T Shirt = $10.00 Shorts = $10.00 Combination Lock = $8.50 Students will also be required to read articles and to keep a daily journal covering a variety of topics, therefore they will need a spiral notebook, pen or pencil in P.E. class. Laundry Fee: All uniforms must remain in the dressing room at the end of each class. No one will be allowed to take them home over night. The coaching staff will be responsible for the cleaning of any and all uniforms. To help off-set the cost of washing, drying, detergents and liquid softeners, we require a one-time charge of $10.00 ( LAUNDRY FEE ) to be paid by the end of the 3rd week of school, FRIDAY, SEPT. 11TH. This $10.00 fee covers the fall & spring semesters. Please provide this in cash or money order.
