GOALS & OBJECTIVES Why You Should Attend: CVI s 4th Annual New Paradigms in Arrhythmia Management focuses on four major areas in the diagnosis and management of patients with arrhythmias and cardiac rhythm disorders: syncope, cardiac resynchronization therapy, ECG interpretation and atrial fibrillation. We have assembled an impressive faculty of internationally recognized thought leaders and regional experts in the fields of electrophysiology and electrocardiographic interpretation for this day long educational initiative. The program agenda highlights: syncope in both the normal and abnormal heart; syncope and driving the medical-legal implications for clinicians; benefits and possible complications of resynchronization therapy; challenges in ECG interpretation; the role of A Fib in stroke; expected outcomes in A Fib ablation; and the changing landscape of novel oral anticoagulants. Target Audience: Cardiologists, electrophysiologists, primary care, emergency, family practice, internal and geriatric medicine physicians, fellow, residents, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and EP Lab staff who participate in the care of patients with arrhythmias, cardiac rhythm disorders and cardiovascular disease. Learning Objectives: After attending CVI s 4th Annual New Paradigms in Arrhythmia Management CME program, attendees will be better able to: Discuss the mechanisms of syncope in the absence of structural heart disease Compare and contrast postural autonomic syndromes including postural tachycardia and postural intolerance Describe the appropriate use and utilization of ICD therapy Recognize the risks and benefits of ICD therapy in patients with syncope and ventricular tachyarrhythmia Compare and contrast current laws in PA NJ DE governing physician responsibility regarding patients with syncope Compare and contrast the differences between physician reporting responsibilities related to patients with private and commercial licenses Identify patients who might benefit from cardiac resynchronization therapy Explain why some patients don t benefit from cardiac resynchronization therapy Consider various options available for managing complications resulting from implantable device therapy Appropriately and effectively extract cardiac rhythm management devices and leads when necessary Identify ECG patterns that could result in syncope which should never be missed Distinguish patients at risk for bradycardia as opposed to tachycardia Consider reasons why atrial fibrillation may not be the proximate cause of stroke in all cases Discuss common risk factors for Atrial Fibrillation and stroke Identify patients who would be expected to receive significant benefit from Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Recognize the true therapeutic benefits of atrial fibrillation ablation Compare and contrast pharmaco-kinetics and pharmaco-dynamics of novel oral anticoagulant agents Discuss current and future prospects of reversal agents for novel oral anticoagulant agents Identify potential barriers and develop effective improvement strategies for compliance with novel oral anticoagulant agents Accreditation Statement: This event has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Pennsylvania Medical Society through the joint providership of the Einstein Medical Center and Cardiovascular Institute of Philadelphia. Einstein Medical Center is accredited by the Pennsylvania Medical Society to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation Statement: AMA: Einstein Medical Center designates this live educational event for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).
