The main cause of the FMD outbreaks on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic is a carrying of virus from neighboring unfavorable countries, primarily due to illegal import of animals, animal products and feed, animal contacts at common pastures and ponds. According to FMD data analysis of Kyrgyzstan for 2005-2011, the foot and mouth disease remains one of the most extended and dangerous animal diseases. For the last 3 years it was used the trivalent FMD vaccine А/О/Asia-1 manufactured by the RAKSHA OVAC firm (India). It was identified FMD virus of types O and Pan-Asia-2 by TEST 2119 of 28.06.2011, in double indirect bilayer version immunocapture ELISA and by PCR method. 7 samples of pathological material of sick animal were sent to the OIE Diagnostic and Animal Disease Control Cooperation Center for Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Caucasus countries and to the Regional FMD reference laboratory of the Russian Federation in the city of Vladimir on the 7 th of October 2011. During the investigation (Test 2127 of 10.10.2011г) it was identified the А type of FMD. Isolates belong to the genetic line А Iran/ 05. For 03.10.2011 according to the OIE data it was registered 14 countries of the world with FMD. Among them Kazakhstan, China and Russia are our neighbors. For the year 2012 the State Veterinary Department have purchased trivalent vaccine of types A Iran-05, O Pan-Asia-2, Asia-1-Shamir according to the Technical Specification of manufacturer FGBU VNIIZZH of Vladimir city.

The State Veterinary Department in association with FAO developed the Program and Strategy for FMD prevention and control of animals for 2011-2015. The Program is drawn in accordance with the Decision of 17 April 2002 of the intergovernmental council on cooperation of CIS in veterinary. The main objective of the program is aimed at exclusion of outbreak and spread of FMD on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, minimizing the damage of potential FMD outbreaks due to fast localization and liquidation of epizootic focuses.
