THE BIR/DMCI HANDS-ON TRAINING SERIES: TRAUMA IMAGING Venue: Etc. venues Marble Arch, London CPD: 7 CREDITS (applied for) Educational Aims: To understand the role of imaging in the trauma patient, with particular emphasis on whole body CT. When is it safe to scan the severely injured patient? Understand the role of whole body CT not just in the golden hour but in the secondary imaging survey following emergent thoracotomy or laparotomy. To correctly interpret traumatic aortic injury, active bleeding from complex pelvic fractures, abdominal solid organ injuries and understand the role of interventional radiology in the management of these conditions To correctly interpret neurological and spinal trauma. What needs urgent neurosurgical review? Is the spinal injury stable? Faculty 20 OCTOBER 2016 Dr Ashok Adams Consultant ENT/Neuroradiologist, Barts Health NHS Trust Dr Ashok Adams is a Consultant ENT/Neuroradiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust. He commenced his radiology training at the Royal London Hospital in 2008, after which he joined the pan London neuroradiology fellowship. As the majority of his training has been at a long established Level 1 trauma centre, he has accumulated a vast experience in neuroradiology trauma. Dr Jonathan Colledge Consultant Radiologist, Barts Health NHS Trust Dr Jonathan Colledge is a consultant Paediatric Radiologist and CT lead at Barts Health NHS trust. He graduated from St Andrews and Manchester University and after obtaining MRCP, moved to Barts Health to train in radiology, during which time he gained a Masters in medical physics with distinction. Particular interests include paediatric and adult thoracic imaging, trauma, dose reduction, and IT in radiology. He is the author of a popular app, Radiology Tutor, with more than 120,000 downloads across all platforms. He has implemented and is the administrator of a Linux based teaching PACS server for use with Osirix workstations at Barts Health. Previous lectures on paediatric trauma imaging have all obtained excellent feedback.

Dr Susan Cross Consultant Radiologist, Barts Health NHS Trust Dr Susan Cross has been a Consultant Radiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust, since 2013. Her special interests are musculoskeletal imaging and trauma. She co-ran a successful and innovative Trauma Imaging Course which has been nominated for an award in the Health Education North Central and East London Quality Awards 2015. Susan is actively engaged in teaching not only within the hospital but also nationally, most recently at the Royal College of Radiologists Annual Scientific Meeting in London. Dr Ounali Jaffer Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist Royal London Hospital Dr Ounali Jaffer is a Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist at the Royal London Hospital (Level 1 trauma centre). He received his medical degree at St George s Hospital and completed his interventional radiology training at King s College Hospital. He is a member of the British and European Societies of Interventional Radiology and has been awarded prizes for his research, including the Finzi Prize (Royal Society of Medicine) and the Trainee Research Prize (Radiological Society of North America). He has authored peerreviewed scientific papers and book chapters in both diagnostic and interventional Radiology. He has also been an invited lecturer for his expertise at various national and international congresses, including presentations on visceral organ trauma diagnosis and management. He has co-organised and been a faculty member on four separate national and international trauma courses, as well as conducting a workshop on trauma intervention at a national level. Event information The number of places will be limited so that delegates can experience a more personalised, interactive method of teaching. Early booking is therefore strongly advised. The course will be run on imacs to provide all delegates with the best posssible interactive experience.
