Achievements to Celebrate! 1. In July of 2015, NAMI Nevada was re-chartered as a NAMI State Organization under the NAMI Standards of Excellence. 2. NAMI Nevada was awarded the NAMI Basics Leadership Award at the 2015 NAMI Annual Convention. 3. NAMI Western Nevada received the Outstanding Affiliate award from NAMI. 4. NAMI Nevada launched NAMI Basics in 2014, holding the first-ever teacher training using telehealth technology. 5. NAMI Nevada held a NAMI Basics for professionals class that was so successful (resulted in so many referrals) that a second training was held this summer to build capacity to provide the program. 6. NAMI held a NAMI Homefront teacher training. 7. NAMI Nevada hired a new Executive Director, Ginger Paulsen!

So Why Are NAMI Programs Important in Nevada? Mental health is a community health issue. NAMI programs dispel myths and reduce stigma around mental illness. NAMI programs give tools, skills and resources to people whose lives are affected by mental illness... to make their lives better. NAMI programs promote recovery and wellness. Lives are transformed no longer alone.
NAMI Education Programs Build NAMI Leaders
NAMI Programs in Nevada: NAMI Family-to-Family (English & Spanish) NAMI Basics (English & Spanish) NAMI Peer-to-Peer NAMI Support Groups NAMI In Our Own Voice NAMI Homefront
Listed in the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP) 12 session course for family members, spouses and partners of individuals with mental illness. The course is taught by trained family members and is free to participants. Over 300,000 family members have graduated from this national program.
Education program for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental health conditions. Taught by trained teachers who are the parents or other caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness prior to the age of 13 years. The course consists of six classes, each lasting for 2 ½ hours.
NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a unique, 10-session experiential learning program for people with mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. Written by a person with a mental illness who is also a former mental health provider and manager in the mental health field, as well as a longtime mutual support group member and facilitator. All classes are facilitated by peer mentors.
Public education presentation given by 2 trained presenters living in recovery with mental illness. Uses speaker stories, videos and facilitated discussion to illustrate the individual realities of living with mental illness. NAMI IOOV can change attitudes, preconceived notions and stereotypes regarding these illnesses.
Support groups for people whose lives are affected by mental illness, where people learn from each others experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other encouragement and understanding
- Free, 6-session educational program for families, caregivers and friends of military service members and vets. - Based on the NAMI Family-to-Family program. - The program is taught by trained family members of service members/veterans living with mental health conditions.
