VOL. 55 NO. 11 THURSDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2013 THE ROTARY CLUB OF BENDIGO SOUTH Connect to the Community SignPost MEETS THURSDAYS 6pm for 6:30pm, @ THE FOUNDRY HOTEL Welcome to this weeks edition of the SignPost... We had a wonderful meeting at the Bendigo Stadium last Thursday evening. Nineteen members and one guest, and our exchange student Anna, enjoyed a wonderful meal and fellowship over the evening. Many of those present extended their appetites to include selections from the magnificent desert menu featuring Pavlova, cheesecake and other equally tempting delights. All in all, I believe that we all enjoyed our evening together, and a substantial amount of funds were raised to put towards our 'Relay for Life' team effort this year. Ros Chenery, our Club's International Service chair, took the opportunity to hold a short meeting with her committee during which various ideas for fundraising were discussed. Ros will discuss with our Club members at a future Forum meeting, the proposed ways in which she and her committee will raise funds towards the purchase of a Shelter Box for this year. Contents... Ros and Cora also chaired a meeting with the Multicultural Dance committee to continue with the finalising of plans for the event to be held on the 5th October at the Bendigo RSL. Tickets are selling fast at $40/adult, and tables of 10 are available. This Thursday we have our guest speakers Emma Wilson and Dr Phil West who will talk to us about their attendance at the Peace Forum in Hiroshima. We will also have an induction of a new member for our Club, so it would be wonderful to have as many of our Bendigo South members present for the induction. Please remember to contact Ros Chenery if you are unable to attend, or if you wish to bring a guest for the evening. See you all this Thursday at The Foundry hotel. Engage Rotary, Change Lives. I have been here for 3 weeks and it seems 3 days. Everyday is new and exciting. I enjoy Girton very much. I find the subjects that I chosen interesting, however I don t understand everything yet. But the teachers and my friends are very helpful. On Mondays I go dancing with Wendy, on Tuesdays I have volleyball training, on Thursday volleyball game and on Fridays I ll do aerobic at school. Sport is very important for me so I try to do as much as I can. It also helps me make more friends. My host parents are very lovely people. They drive me to school and home, I don t have to catch the bus. I feel comfortable at home. Yesterday I cooked them Goulash soup, a traditional Hungarian dish and they loved it. So I can say that I settled in, finally the weather is good too (I was cold all the time before.) I hope you are all right too, Best wishes, Anna Get in Early and Register for the Rotary Club of Bendigo South Team!!
