GRC currently manages over 340 different ongoing conferences. Gordon Conferences are embraced by the mainstream scientific community as the leading forum for the presentation of research at the frontiers of science and the place to build relationships with leading scientists in their field from around the world. Complete information concerning the Gordon Research Conferences can be found at www.grc.org. The 2018 Granular Matter Gordon Research Conference is the ninth conference to be held in this area, involving world experts and leaders in granular matter science from academics, industry and government. The speakers alone will come from over 10 different coountries spread throughout the world. Dr. Felipe Pacheco-Vázquez from the Institute of Physics of the Benemérita Autonomous University of Puebla has been selected to participate as an invited speaker in this highly prestigious conference, which will be held at Stonehill College, Easton, Massachussetts USA, during the week of July 21 to July 28, 2018 Dr. Felipe Pacheco-Vázquez has agreed to participate in this Conference as an invited Speaker. As Chair of this Gordon Conference, I am enthusiastic about his participation at the meeting, which is highly anticipated by the entire conference community. I will provide funds through the Conference Budget in partial support of his participation. It is my understanding that Felipe will need a Visa to enable him to enter the United States for this purpose; any assistance you can provide to facilitate this process will be greatly appreciated. If I can be of any further help please do not hesitate to contact me. Departamento de Física Facultad de Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas Universidad de Chile Blanco Encalada 2008, Santiago http://www.dfi.uchile.cl Santiago, February 6, 2018 Invitation Granular Workshop 2018 Prof. Felipe Pacheco Vázquez Institute of Physics in Puebla Dear Prof. Pacheco, On behalf of the organizers, we are pleased to invite you to present a talk at the Southern Workshop on Granular Materials 2018 in Puerto Varas, Chile. We intend for the workshop to address a variety of theoretical and experimental issues at the forefront of granular physics. You may choose the topic of your choice, provided it falls within this scope. Topics of particular interest include the dynamics and rheology of granular flows, segregation, discharge flows, active macroscopic particles, jamming and dense flows, acoustic propagation, propulsion in granular media, the statistical mechanics of fluidized granular matter, invasion phenomena, astrophysical applications, etc. We also hope to touch on practical issues, such as applications to industrial processes or soil mechanics, as they relate to the basic science aspect of granular materials. The workshop will be held at the Hotel Cabañas del Lago in Puerto Varas (http://www.hotelcabanadellago.cl/ingles) from December 3rd to the 6th, 2018. We believe that your contribution as an invited speaker would greatly add to the success of the workshop. For the moment we are not able to cover your expenses. The 500 USD registration fee will cover your hotel lodging, lunches and coffee breaks. With our current budget we cannot provide any fee reduction, but we are applying for external funding and we hope that we will be able to do so. The challenges that granular materials present require the combined capacity and creativity of scientists and engineers working in different areas and inevitably bearing different points of view. We hope you will join us and our many international colleagues in addressing and discussing these challenges. Please let us know at your earliest convenience (before March 1st, 2018) if you accept and will be able to attend. Best regards, Rodrigo Soto on behalf of the organizing committee http://www.cec.uchile.cl/~granular2018/
