February 24, 2017 Hello AAEOPP! On behalf of the Alabama Executive Board and our outstanding TRIO Day committee, I whole-heartedly welcome each of you to the 2017 Alabama TRIO Day held on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 10am-5pm. Our TRIO Day is appropriately themed TRIO Day in the Magic City as I am confident in saying that this TRIO Day will prove to be nothing short of the magic that our host city is named for! I am elated that you have decided to join us as we celebrate our wonderful TRIO programs that have made such a positive impact in communities nationwide since 1964! Your Alabama TRIO Day Committee has worked diligently to ensure that this day offers a vast array of opportunities to include a phenomenal opening speaker, Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, vendors, academic competitions, UAB officials and student organizations, dance competitions, music and lots of entertainment! It is our goal to have representation from each program in the state, as this is the one occasion afforded to us to bond with our fellow colleagues as well as our beloved students. Each year, our TRIO programs continue to work hard for our students, who represent America s future. We understand the necessity to stay abreast of growing trends, new legislature that affects us, and keeping the internal fire going as we continue in this uphill journey that is TRIO. However, we also understand the need to celebrate our accomplishments and the many students who are positively affected by the services that TRIO programs offer. Therefore, as we gather for this years TRIO Day celebration, my hope is that you all are as excited as I am to experience the provocative concurrent sessions, special events, comradery, and culture that your TRIO Day committee has planned for you. In closing, I want to sincerely thank each of you again for your participation in our 2017 Alabama TRIO Day. It takes everyone and their talents collectively to continue to make this AAEOPP Association great and we are honored to provide this special day for all of you who continue to propel our amazing Association forward! See you all on Saturday, May 6, 2017! Sincerely, Shawanda M. Benjamin Shawanda M. Benjamin, AAEOPP President Director, TRIO Programs University of Alabama at Birmingham
