P a g e 2 On Tuesday 5th February, we enjoyed another Behind the Badge presentation of one of our long standing members. Cyril Dann gave us a wonderful in site into his life and how he was introduced to Rotary, as well as his "life path" to becoming a Priest. Cyril was born in Launceston, youngest of 5. Cyril attended Mowbray Heights Primary School and then Launceston Technical High. He was made a Prefect 1954 & Captain of the Hockey team. Working Years:- A Clerk at P.M.G. in Launceston from 1955 to 1957. Moved to Hobart in the Costing section for a number of years. Moved to the Health Dept then on to being an Accountant at the Social Security Department before a promotion to Bankruptcy Administration. Later Cyril was promoted to Official Receiver where he remained until he retired due to ill health in 1983. Cyril joined Rotary August 1981. In 1982 he had heart surgery in Adelaide which culminated in 5 by passes. He has subsequently had a stent put in plus a pacemaker in 2011. He married Nessie in 1961 and they have four children. After the sad passing of his wife Nessie, Cyril lived in Howrah until 2010. He met and married Mae and now lives in Risdon Vale. Cyril was involved with St John cadets from 1975 then with St John council until 2012, which he was the Chaplain of the association for years. He was made Officer of the Order of St John. Cyril has been involved with the Anglican Church since the late 1950s. In 1986 he was Ordained as Deacon and Priested in 1988. Cyril served in many Parishes and was Chaplain at R.H.H. from 1993 until 2012 which he found was a very rewarding experience. He was the Girl Guide Assoc treasurer for a number of years from 1984 and on the council. Cyril was Chaplain to ADARDS Nursing Home from inception and also on the Board until the home was taken over by Presbyterian Church about 4 years ago. He still takes monthly service there and as at the Lillian Martin home as well as visiting both weekly. Cyril was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to community. He is Past President of Bellerive Rotary in the years 1994/95 and 2010/11. Was awarded the Paul Harris Sapphire Pin. Cyril also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Commissioner of Police for counselling of a person threatening to jump from Tasman Bridge. I am sure that you will all agree that it was a very interesting talk in what has been an amazing journey for Cyril and his family. Article written by Louise Ritchie
