NEURAL INTERFACES for Therapeutic Interventions Individualized Neuromodulation for Neurologic and Psychiatric Disease COURSE DIRECTORS Director, UCLA Neurosurgical Movement Disorders Program UCLA Department of Neurosurgery Director, Neuromodulation Division Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior OCTOBER 3, 2015 Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Los Angeles, California

COURSE DESCRIPTION This comprehensive 1 day continuing medical education (CME) program in neuromodulation features an outstanding faculty from the Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The purpose of the course is to provide an update on the advanced multidisciplinary management of movement disorders and psychiatric diseases. There will be specific emphasis on new and emerging treatment options, including deep brain stimulation (DBS), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), trigeminal nerve stimulation (TNS), and other neuromodulatory techniques. Alternative treatments, including first-line medical management, botulinum toxin therapy, and adjunctive therapies will also be discussed. The course will focus on personalizing therapy, both with respect to patient selection and targeting therapy. To integrate and ensure audience participation, patient testimonials will take place throughout the day. Attendees are encouraged to bring in their own cases for discussion. TARGET AUDIENCE Neurosurgeons (functional and general), neurologists (general, movement disorder, and epilepsy), psychiatrists, psychologists, pain management physicians, primary care physicians, allied-health professionals, and neurosurgery, neurology, and psychiatry residents and fellows COURSE OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Describe first line medical therapies for movement disorders and psychiatric disorders Understand the differing roles and uses of invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation Understand indications, approaches, and methods for personalizing non-invasive neuromodulation for neurologic and psychiatric disease Identify indications for deep brain stimulation for movement disorders, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and pain ACCREDITATION The Office of Continuing Medical Education, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Office of Continuing Medical Education, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements, under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. Disclosure The FDA has issued a concept paper which classifies commercial support of scientific and educational programs as promotional unless it can be affirmed that the program is truly independent and free of commercial influence. In addition to independence, the FDA requires that non-promotional, commercially supported education be objective, balanced, and scientifically rigorous. The policy further states that all potential conflicts of interest of the CME staff and faculty be fully disclosed to the program's participants. In addition, policy of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education now mandates that the provider adequately manages all identified potential conflicts of interest prior to the program. We at UCLA, fully endorse the letter and spirit of these concepts.
