SECTION 2 Job Purpose As Smoking Cessation Coordinator you will join the Aberdeenshire Public Health Team on a 7 month maternity cover contract. The post contributes to a reduction in smoking prevalence through planning, coordinating and implementing tobacco control activities and facilitating collaboration between a wide range of partner organisations across Aberdeenshire, including local authorities and health services. The post will have a key role in promoting partnership development, networking, lobbying and disseminating information in relation to the national and NHS Grampian tobacco strategy agenda. The focus during the cover period will be in particular implementing smoke free workplaces, homes and cars, strengthening the tobacco alliance and interventions to reduce the inflow of young people to take up smoking. You will be educated to a degree level or equivalent or have relevant experience in Tobacco Control related Public Health issues. You will have excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to communicate at different levels using written and verbal communication. Car owner or suitable access to a car and a clean current UK driving licence is essential. 1 Communication and relationship skills Provide and receive complex, sensitive information; persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training skills are required / present complex, sensitive or contentious information to large groups The SCC works together with a range of agencies and services to reduce smoking rates and tobacco related issues, specifically in areas of health inequality, and share knowledge to successfully support this public health area of work in Aberdeenshire. Communicate with a variety of services and multi agencies to facilitate efficient partnership working to support the smoking cessation / tobacco related effort. Ensure links with the CHP primary and secondary care services (GPs, practice staff, midwives, health visitors), CHP tobacco working groups, NHS Smoking Advice Service, Aberdeenshire Council (Community Learning and Development, Education), voluntary services and the local media Supports the Chair of the multi agency Aberdeenshire Local Tobacco Alliance Delivers information and presentations on smoking related issues to a range of management groups Co-ordinates, develops and delivers smoking / tobacco related training to staff including health care professionals and support staff from secondary, primary and acute care services and workers from other sectors and wider partner agencies Effectively communicates specialist information such as statistical data to a range of agencies at a senior, strategic, practice and community level Liaises and motivates staff working in services and multi agencies about their role and their support in the reducing smoking rates in Aberdeenshire 2 Knowledge, training and experience Specialist knowledge across range of procedures underpinned by theory Knowledge of public health field acquired through relevant degree, supplemented by specialist public health improvement knowledge, acquired through training, extended courses and experience to post graduate diploma level equivalent Qualifications Essential Essential to have a health-related education to degree level or equivalent Postgraduate diploma level qualification in health improvement / health services research / public health / social science required, or equivalent specialist public health improvement knowledge acquired through training and / or formal courses Car owner with full, clean driving licence JD SCC (APHT) June 2011 3

This will require excellent project planning / management skills.
