North Central Region Newsletter November 2015 Issue III The #1 Rated Newsletter In The North Central Region Message From The RVP: Greetings! I hope everyone is having a great chapter year. Given comments I have received from my last newsletter, I will try to make this newsletter a bit shorter. However, I am still seeking news and events from each chapter for the regional newsletter if your chapter has anything it wishes to share in the regional newsletter, please let me know! The search for the North Central Region s next RVP continues! If you wish to be the next RVP, or know of anyone who may be interested or who you think would make a great RVP, please let me know ASAP. I appreciate everyone s assistance in the search for our region s next RVP! Finally, I wish to thank you for your service to AGA. Without talented and dedicated people like you, we would not have as great of an organization as we have now. Your work touches many people at the chapter, regional, and national levels. Thank you! I wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving and if traveling safe travels! Matthew Matczynski Matthew Matczynski Regional Vice President North Central Region

From The National Office: New Chapter Services Manager Just a reminder that Jessica Jones has left AGA, and that Louise Burnette has taken over Jessica s duties. Thus, please contact Louise for anything you would have contacted Jessica regarding. You can reach Louise Burnette at lburnette@agacgfm.org or 800.242.7211 ext. 317. Chapter Recognition Program Due Dates o Second Quarter: December 31, 2015 o Third Quarter: March 31, 2016 o Fourth Quarter: May 31, 2016 Keep Members Informed Are all of your chapter members email addresses up to date? Member email addresses can change with a new job, domain change, or a new preferred email account. As the National Office primarily communicates with members via email, it is important that all members have up to date email addresses on file with the national office. Urge your members to keep their email addresses updated using the Subscription Preferences section of the national website. If you know of email changes for chapter members, you can also contact the national office to get the changes made at agamembers@agacgfm.org. NASBA-approved CPE credits When required, chapter education chairs should ensure the chapter is registered with its appropriate State Board of Accountancy to offer CPEs for training events. Please note, AGA s national NASBA number should NOT be used by chapters. Chapters seeking to issue NASBA CPEs should instead obtain and use their own chapter NASBA number. Chapters can obtain a NASBA number by becoming a NASBA approved provider of CPEs. For more information on

NASBA CPEs, go to www.nasba.org. Email education@agacgfm.org with questions or for more information. Nominate a Leader for a 2016 National Leadership Award AGA needs your assistance in honoring two state, two local, and two federal government officials, as well as two private sector financial executives. Please consider submitting nomination(s) for the 2016 National Leadership Award. More information on the National Leadership Awards can be found here. Nominations are due November 30 th. Need Marketing Materials? Did you know that the AGA national office offers marketing material to the chapters? Marketing materials can be requested online by clicking here. If you don t see something you need, include it in the instructions box. Please remember that the national office needs at least two weeks notice so your items can arrive on time. Citizen-Centric Report Reviewers Needed AGA needs individuals to help review CCRs submitted by governmental entities. Please consider helping AGA with its CCR initiative by volunteering to be a CCR reviewer. If you are interested in volunteering, please email the national office by clicking here. Things To Consider: Do you have a chapter member (or two) that constantly complains that he/she is not getting any value for his/her AGA membership? If your chapter has such a member (or even if your chapter doesn t), please consider communicating to all chapter members AGA s FREE members only leadership webinar being held on Wednesday November 18 th from 1:00 2:00 PM Central Time. The title of the leadership webinar is One Thing a Leader Must Do and the speaker is Karen Alexander, CGFM, Associate Director, Financial Management Services Division, US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The learning objective of this webinar is to define leadership traits and detail how one can overcome challenges and effect changes needed to get the job done. One CPE is being offered for viewing the webinar. Although there may not be such a thing as a free lunch, this webinar is the closest thing to one! This webinar does not cost your chapter a dime to offer, and is a great way of providing a free benefit to your chapter members. However, the only way your chapter members will benefit from this webinar is if they are notified of this webinar and view it! Notification of this webinar was previously provided in emails sent to all AGA members from the national office. However, some of your chapter members may not have read these emails, and thus may still not know about this free webinar! Furthermore, if the national office does not have an AGA member s email address (or if the email address is incorrect / outdated), then such member never received the national office s email notification regarding the free webinar. Thus, to ensure all your chapter members are aware of this awesome free member benefit, I

highly encourage your chapter to notify all chapter members of this free webinar, and encourage them to attend! This free webinar can be viewed wherever one has internet access, as it is being streamed via the internet. This webinar is only available to AGA members and is for individual viewing only. A group viewing option is not being offered. In order to participate in the webinar, chapter members must register using their AGA membership number with the national office using the following link: https://www.agacgfm.org/my AGA/Sign in.aspx?ret=/events CPE/Secure/Event Registration.aspx?ID=172. (As an AGA membership number is required to register for this webinar, your chapter may obtain communications from chapter members claiming they forgot / don t know their membership number / wondering who to contact to find out their membership number. A helpful hint is that chapter presidents and other chapter board members can obtain all your chapter members AGA membership numbers via the membership report that can be pulled off the AGA national website). Upon successful registration, the AGA national office will send the participant an email confirming webinar registration as well as providing the participant with a unique link to access the webinar. This unique link will connect only one devise to the webinar and will allow for only one CPE certificate to be obtained. So in summary, I just want to reiterate that the AGA national office is offering a FREE members only webinar on Wednesday November 18 th, that AGA members must register in advance with the national office to participate in this webinar, and that the only way for your members to benefit from this webinar is if they know about it and are encouraged to view it so I ask your chapter to consider communicating this webinar to your chapter members. Regional Initiative: Thank you very much to everyone who helped contribute to the last regional initiative of promoting awareness of AGA s Citizen Centric Report (CCR) program! I appreciate the chapters in our region that completed a Member Centric Report, those chapters that are reaching out to other governmental entities and encouraging others to create Citizen Centric Reports, those chapters that are doing presentations and creating awareness on Citizen Centric Reports, and those chapters that are conducting other activities to promote the Citizen Centric Report program. I also appreciate everyone who contacted me as a result of this initiative to discuss what his/her chapter is doing regarding the initiative, providing suggestions on what I can do and what I can recommend other chapters do to better advance this initiative, etc. I really do appreciate everyone s time and feedback. Thank you! The next initiative is to create a regional list of recommended speakers. As a list of recommended speakers seems to be a recurring request at the Sectional Leadership Meeting (SLM), and as the national office does not have a list of recommended speakers, I would like to create one at the regional level. Thus, if you know of any great speakers that your chapter has had in the past that you would

recommend for such a list, please let me know by emailing me at Mmatczynski@hudoig.gov. I appreciate each chapter s assistance in this initiative. Please let RVP Matt Matczynski know of any actions your chapter takes in support of this Regional Initiative! Regional News: *** Do you have news from your chapter you wish to share in the regional newsletter? If so, I would love to hear from you! Please contact Matt Matczynski at Mmatczynski@hudoig.gov with your news, stories, pictures, meeting schedules, etc. and I would be more than happy to include it in the next edition of the regional newsletter! ***
