Rotary Club of Bendigo South Signpost Volume 58, No. 5 4 August 2016 Meets Thursdays 6pm for 6.30pm at the Foundry Hotel High St, Golden Square. Rotary Serving Humanity bendigosouthrotary.org.au http://www.twitter.com/rotarybendigos President s weekly message... President s Report. At our last meeting held Thursday August 4 we returned to the Foundry Complex where we heard from firstly Cora Fuentes-Mahnic, who was then followed by Merlyn Quaife. Once again our member s talks were of the usual high quality and provided a great insight into the backgrounds of these two more recently recruited members. We also welcomed Jane Robson who has recently moved to Bendigo as the head of the Bendigo YMCA. Jane has been a past member of the Rotary Club of Ballarat. At our board meeting held the same night we approved a $500 donation to the up- coming Men s Health event to be held in Bendigo within the next month and also to support Max Tulloch from Girton Grammar in his desire to attend a Conocco Phillips Science experience to the tune of $120.We also have a candidate in Declan Rochfort for the next National Youth Science Forum and also Thomas Wigney looking at attending the October RYPEN Camp. A draft of both the current Business Plan for the coming year, along with a membership recruitment plan were discussed. With a bit of fine tuning both will be adopted. Also we also intend to apply for a Community Foundation Grant to help fund the Science and Engineering Challenge. If we wish to make changes to our rules of operation under the new resolutions approved recently by the Council of Legislation we have the opportunity to do so during the year. Once there is a proposal on the table it will be given to all members to consider and either adopted or rejected when the club conducts its Annual meeting in November. Personally I do not envisage anything too far reaching but perhaps a need to alter our rules to better reflect actual current practises. Our next major event is our Robert Walls night on Wednesday August 17. I will have tickets for sale at this week s meeting. We not only ask members to attend but to recruit some others outside the club. If you have guests to bring it is your responsibility to get the money from them and give them their ticket. Direct debit payments are only being offered to club members and it is important you notify acting treasurer Rod Spitty that you are paying this way. Money should be paid into the projects account. If you wish to pay with EFTPOS you can do so at this week s meeting or go to Gee Jay auto. Make sure that whoever puts your card through writes on the print out Robert Walls. Cash payments can be made to me on receipt of your ticket. Please try to let Ros know of non- attendance at meetings no later than 11 am on the day of the meeting. Unless you have made special arrangements with Ros it is assumed that no apology means you are attending. The Foundry gives us a tolerance of three persons either way. After that we pay for our mistakes. To avoid the treasurer sending you an invoice for $25 for a non- apology please try to adhere to these rules. It can happen that something comes up at the last minute and you need

to pull out when good intentions to attend were the aim. If this happens still let Ros know and unless it is a regular occurrence we will view it sympathetically. At the end of the day if we incur meal costs outside our planning it impacts on the club s administration budget which is challenging enough to keep in the black. At this week s meeting we will hear from all our directors re their plans for the coming year. I would ask each sub- committee to sit together and take the opportunity to converse with your hard working director during dinner. Let us have a really good role up this week.
