Volume: 16/17 Issue: 5.5 Temporary Bulletin Editor: Jim Lamb ZONE C-4 = 217 GREAT LIONS MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD! *** Special Edition *** As we near the busy holiday season, there are a number of important events and opportunities which need to be highlighted. In this special issue of Zone 19C-4 news, you will find information regarding our upcoming District Governor s Advisory meeting, two clubs with large holiday projects that could use some zone cooperation and assistance and the announcement of a zone project to support Project Connect. Please take a few moments to review this special issue and put your Lions heart and hands to work during this special time of the year. Thanks, Zone Chair Jim. Item #1: District Governor s Advisory Meeting December 2nd Our next Zone Meeting will be held on Friday December 2nd at the Family Pancake House on Kitsap Way. Arrive at 6pm to order dinner and to visit with friends. The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm and will be hosted by the Silverdale Sunrise Lions. There are many important items to discuss and the meeting will focus on Membership. Club Membership Directors (or in their absence, the Club s President) will be asked to make a two minute presentation about your club s membership plan for the remainder of the year. Club Presidents will also be called upon to talk about their clubs recent and future projects and to share successes and lessons learned. Club Presidents: please bring a club pin which will be mounted on a plaque to be given to our wonderful District Governor at the end of our current year. We all look forward to hearing about Lions service in Zone C-4!

Item #2 Jolly Santa s (and elves) needed: The Silverdale Sunrise Lions will provide pictures with Santa at the Fred Meyer store in East Bremerton again this year. If you ve ever wanted to sit in the big chair and show your inner kindness to little ones in our community, or if you ve been a jolly Santa and would like to again, here s your chance. Shifts that are currently available are: SAT 11/26 10-12:30 Elf only. 12:30-3 - Elf only. 3-6 pm - Santa and Elf. SUN 11/27 12-3 - Elf only. 3-6 pm - Santa and Elf. FRI 12/2 3-6 pm - Elf only. Contact John Gardner at jgardner@donobi.net to get your name on this schedule. It would be a great help for a very worthwhile project and fundraiser.

Item #3 North Mason Christmas Giving Tree North Mason Lions Christmas Giving Project The North Mason Lions organize and operate one of the largest projects in our Zone. Hundreds of needy folks and families receive gifts and food because of the generosity of the community and the good spirit and hearts of the North Mason Lions. This project begins in September when they distribute information to the local schools. During October they register families and their needs every Saturday. In November they get tags out to businesses and schools listing needs of members of the community (ie. Boy, 12, needs warm coat.). Community members take the tags and bring back gifts. Lions then gather all of the packages and organize all of the gifts for distribution on December 17 th. Saturdays: 10am 2pm: Distribute gift tags to public at QFC store in Belfair. December 6 th and 7 th : Collect gifts and tags. Distribution Day: 12/17, Hawkins Middle School, 8:30 am 2pm. This is a very large project. I hope that some of you will join me in volunteering to help. If you re willing to help, please contact King Lion Steve (fourcoverts@q.com) or Secretary Heather (davis.heather.rae@gmail.com). THANK YOU.

Item #4 Project Connect / Zone Project The date and details of Project Connect, the community s effort to connect homeless to needed services to improve their lives and to make our community a safer and better place to live have just been announced. As many as 100 pair of glasses have been provided each year during this event. Lions have helped with the initial screening and movement of individuals to the optometrists who volunteer to care for the vision needs of these people in need. There will be a call for Lions volunteers in the December newsletter. Our zone has also collected hygiene products and packaged them for distribution at the event. We will do that again this year and the Leos clubs of North Kitsap will assemble the kits. Lions are requested to gather deodorants, soaps, shampoo and conditioners, tooth brushes, lip gloss and any other products that would be of help to these folks. Last year, a couple of clubs donated $50 or $100 which was used to buy whatever was necessary to complete the kits. It would be appreciated if clubs would consider doing that again this year. The Project Connect flyer is attached for information. Item #5: Gift Wrapping The famous gift wrappers of the Poulsbo Noon Evening Pride will be manning the gift wrapping table at Barnes and Nobel on Friday, November 26 th and Friday December 12 th. Here s your chance to make your packages really stand out. The products don t need to have been purchased at Barnes and Nobel. I m thinking of seeing how they would wrap a basketball. If you ve a bit of extra time or would like some pointers on gift wrapping, I think that you d be welcome to help. This is a very visible and successful fund raiser for the Evening Pride.
