Thank you to those who have submitted photos already! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ALL STAR READING PROGRAM The All Star Reading Program is in need of volunteers. This program is an important element in the development and enhancement of the reading skills of students in grades 1-3 and relies on the dedication of volunteers to be successful. The coaching provided by these adult volunteers contributes significantly to the confidence and skill of our youngest readers. It is also a rewarding experience for our adult volunteers! Coaches are asked to volunteer one hour (more is always appreciated) of your time each week. You determine the day and time you wish to volunteer and we will schedule the
assigned children accordingly. (Please note coaches do not read during recess or lunch breaks). Coaches are needed from the beginning of January until the first week in June. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Melanie Toews (SERT) at 905-637-1873 or pick up a form in the main office and submit. All materials and training are provided through the school. Just a reminder that our uniform provider is InSchoolWear! Please click attached link for more information. https://iswuniforms.com/ If asked for a school code, St. Raphael School s code is : SREH Subway lunch days are posted on SchoolCash! We are running a trial until March Break. Be sure to check your SchoolCash account to order! February 14 th This year Ash Wednesday and Valentine s Day fall on the same day. This has not happened in decades. The memorial of St. Valentine is Feb. 14 th, his day of Martyrdom. However, this is an optional memorial in the church. The conference of Bishops has chosen not to include this in the liturgical year. In any event, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent which always takes precedence over any other memorial for that day. As a school community we will celebrate Valentine s Day on the 13 th. It s also Shrove Tuesday, which will only add to the festivities this year! Reminder that no baked goods can be shared. Also, due to Anaphylactic concerns in the school, we must commit, as a school community, to keep any and all nut products (and lookalikes) from entering the school building. Thank you
REPORT CARDS The first term report cards will be sent home on February 22nd, 2018. Please review your child s progress carefully and complete, sign and return the appropriate sections. Shrove Tuesday February 13th! We look forward to that special day, filled fun and delicious pancakes. Thank you parent council, particularly Mrs. Hanstead and Mrs. Smith for continuing to support that day! Please see flyer e-mailed home on Monday for more information. ARE YOU MOVING? If you know your family is moving out of our St. Raphael s School boundary, we would like to know. Each year a number of families move away and it helps for our planning purposes when we have this information as soon as possible. Thank you. Today was our first pizza day of term 2! A huge thank you to Ms Noble, Ms Crilly, Mrs. Milinkovic and our newest volunteers that came to help Ms Sheehan and Mr. Cardamone! We love seeing your new faces! If you have time and a CRC on file, we can use your help!
Grade 8 Graduation Date: Thursday, June 21, 2018 @ 6:30 p.m. Council Meeting Next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 27 th, 2018. Feel free to join us! 7pm in the school Library. St Raphael Students Participate in Have A Heart Day Have a Heart Day is a youth-led reconciliation event that brings together caring Canadians to help ensure First Nations children have the services they need to grow up safely at home, get a good education, be healthy, and be proud of who they are. Last year more than 700 students, as well as hundreds of other supporters, gathered on Parliament Hill to promote love and fairness for First Nations children in celebration of Have a Heart Day. Have a Heart Day on Parliament Hill was supported by more than 70 events and at least 6500 Valentines letters were sent to elected officials across the country! Our boys and girls will celebrate Have a Heart Day by writing Valentine s Day letters supporting Have a Hear Day to our Prime Minister and Member of Parliament. Great job boys and girls!
