When we each stand and bind together for a greater good and selflessly campaign to hold each other accountable, create love and warm environments for all... the tapestry we weave together becomes the intended masterpiece it was always supposed to be. As you are gearing up for April, please make certain to post your local events via the Events tab, not just for April but for anytime throughout the year. This feature is a great tool that we are all under-utilizing. Individuals across the state visit our webpage regularly to find out about local activities they can attend with their families.

National Wear Blue Day - April 7, 2017 On April 7th WEAR BLUE to show your support for the safety of Indiana's children!! Use #WearBlueIN to share your photos TAG us on Twitter and A Message from PCAIN's Prevention Specialist I am here to promote an idea YOU could use in your own counties! For at least six years, I have been doing trainings at the Marion County Jail. "SafeTots" is an easy, one hour class to learn, discuss and train individuals. It is fun, and the clients LOVE talking about their children! Here are some suggestions to help make this happen in your county: Carol doing a demonstration at a training. 1. APPROACH your county's jail leadership and ask them if a trained educator from Prevent Child Abuse (your County) could come once or twice a month to train offenders. [Logistics: my class size range from 5-10 individuals - depending on room size. Room size can be an issue, but be persistent, don't let that stop you! Ask about using visitation rooms, small classrooms, etc. Inquire about length of time you can have and keep it consistent (for example every third Thursday of the month).] Contact Carol Pool if want to talk about her experience in training this topic in the jails. 2. BE TRAINED by us at PCAIN. The jail will have requirements and restrictions, such as background checks, no cell phones, metal, jewelry, etc. It is the jail's responsibility to supervise to ensure these requirements are met. It will also be PCAIN's responsibility to have someone observe you as a facilitator before you go into the jail. Contact Devina Jani if you are interested in receiving the SafeTots training. I understand that presenting to the inmate population and the intimidation of the requirements might be overwhelming, but training in the jails is an easy and effective way to reach many people with our important message! Additionally, the inmates are eager to learn more, speak about their children and are motivated to make the changes they've learned from our trainings as part of their new and transitioning lives. 3 PCAIN Spring Interns Once again we are very excited to have interns working with us to further our mission and goals of Prevent Child Abuse Indiana. High School intern: Cassidy Keeley - Cassidy is a senior at Center Grove High School. She has student directed and stage managed many of the theater and choir shows across her years in tech crew. Reading brings her joy when she can find time in her schedule. Her placement a PCAIN excites her as she will learn about the social work profession through various projects. MSW Intern: Michaela Flowers - Michaela is from Indianapolis and graduated from Purdue University with a double major in Sociology and Spanish. She is currently a first year student at IU School of Social Work in the Master's program. She is doing her first practicum placement for the semester here at Prevent Child Abuse Indiana. Michaela will be doing her social work concentration in healthcare and hopes to work in a hospital after graduation. Helping PCAIN Helps Indiana's Councils too!! Kids First Support of Prevent Child Abuse Indiana We thank Kids First for continuing to support our charge in ensuring that our mission to "make Indiana a better, safer place for Indiana's most precious resources - our children" is achieved. Help support statewide efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect by the continued use of the Kids First license plate, or when your plates are due again by purchasing the Kids First license plate.
