Art/Calligraphy A self-help group where members work on individual projects. Members provide their own materials. They meet twice a month on Monday mornings at the Central Library. Beginners / Intermediate Bridge This group meets twice a month on a Wednesday afternoon at St Francis of Assisi church, Bessacarr. A talk about an aspect of playing Atol Contract Bridge is followed by as many hands as can be fitted into the two hours available. Card Making The group uses a variety of techniques including, stamping, diecutting, heat and dry embossing, decoupage and paper piecing, to produce greeting cards for many occasions. They meet on the last Wednesday afternoon of the month at St Peter in Chains, Chequer Road. Coffee Quiz The group meets on alternate Friday mornings at Prego at the top of Hallgate for a light-hearted and enjoyable general knowledge quiz with coffee.

Collectabilia Members look at and talk about various collectable items and memorabilia from the past, including their own items. It meets on the second Monday of the month at the Central Library. Computers A self-help group meeting twice a month on Monday mornings at the Central Library. Its main activities include searching the Internet, Word Processing and Computer/Laptop problems. Spreadsheets and Databases can also be covered. Criminology The group meets on the first two Mondays of the month at the Unitarian Church, Hallgate, to scrutinize the criminal law and legal systems. We examine major crimes to discover the effects of the crimes and the sociological reasons why such crimes and criminal behaviour took place. Digital Photography The Group meets once a month, on the third Thursday, at the Central Library to look at the intricacies of using digital cameras well by discussing various aspects such camera functions, composition and processing.

Discussion The group meets every Wednesday morning at a local pub to discuss a topic of general interest. Many of the Group then remain at the pub for lunch. Easy French The group builds upon members knowledge of the French they learnt at school to give more confidence in using French in everyday situations. It meets every four weeks on Friday afternoon at the Prego coffee shop, Hallgate. Film Studies The group meets every four weeks on Tuesday morning to discuss, in an informal way, disciplines, language and modes of production of films. For the Love of Nature The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve. Many aspects of flora, fauna and habitats are investigated via both taught and hands-on sessions. Visits to other sites are also organised.

French Group 1 & 2 The aim of both groups is to help members maintain their knowledge of spoken and written French by conversation and translating French text. The Groups meet on alternate Thursday afternoons at the Central Library. Gardening You don t need your wellies for this one - a discussion group which meets in the Prego coffee bar in the morning of the second Wednesday of the month. Occasional visits to local gardens are also organised. General Meetings These meetings take place on the afternoon of the third Monday of the month at Doncaster Trades Club. They are open to all members and visitors can come twice before joining. There is usually a speaker and tea and coffee is available German The group meets to explore the German language (GCSE level) and culture. The group meets once a month, on the third Wednesday afternoon, at the Prego coffee bar at the top of Hallgate.

History 1 This group agrees amongst itself which aspects of history to explore. They meet on the third Wednesday morning of the month at Prego coffee shop, Hallgate. Jazz Appreciation The group listens to, and discusses, jazz in all its forms including traditional, big band and modern. The group meets at the Group Leader s house every 4 weeks on Thursday mornings. Literature As opposed to a reading group, members of the Literature group choose and discuss literary works which follow, or are connected with, a theme. The group meets in the morning on the second Monday of the month at Prego, coffee shop, Hallgate. Living History Meeting on the first Wednesday of the month in the Prego coffee bar at the top of Hallgate, members of the group assist one another in writing down past memories, with a view to compiling a memoir for the benefit of family members.

Local History Each member of the group presents their chosen topic. This is discussed by the Group which adds to everyone's knowledge. The group meets on the last Monday morning of the month at the Central Library. Looking at Art The group follows a varied programme looking at the history of art, different movements throughout the ages and the work of various artists. It meets every four weeks on a Friday afternoon at the Doncaster CVS building, Trafford Court. Mah Jong The group meets at St. Francis of Assisi church, Bessacarr every second Tuesday of the month. The rules and scoring (there s a U3A guide) can be very basic to accommodate newcomers to the game. Move to Music A qualified fitness tutor leads the group through a series of suitable aerobic exercises. All members are encouraged to work only at their own pace. The group meets every Thursday morning at St. Peter in-chains Church Hall.

Newsletter Group Using the computer suite in the Central Library, this group meets on the first Thursday of the month to edit and transpose information into Microsoft Publisher ready for printing in the Doncaster U3A newsletter. Help and guidance is given. No previous experience necessary. Philosophy The group meets on the last Tuesday afternoon of the month at the Doncaster CVS building, Trafford Court. Members discuss themes and topics on a variety of philosophical, moral and ethical issues which they have chosen themselves. Pins and Needles The group meets in the afternoon on the second and fourth Thursday of the month in the Central Library. The members of the group have a variety of skills and interests. They are a self-help group who support each other over a cup of tea. Popular Classics for All The group listen to, and discuss, mainly recorded classical music (related to a preselected theme) which is chosen by group members. The group meets on the second Monday of each month at the Leader s home.

Smartphones and Tablets The group meets on two Mondays each month at Doncaster CVS, Trafford Court. They take an indepth look at Apple iphones and ipads and their features and apps followed by exercises to put this learning into practice. Striders Striders meet on the second Tuesday of the month. The walks are about 8 miles long usually with shorter options available. They aim to take in a stately home or other point of interest. Strollers Members meet at a pub on the fourth Thursday morning of the month and, after a gentle walk/stroll of approx. 2 to 4 miles, usually return to the same pub for lunch. Sunday Lunch The members of this group meet for lunch once a month, on a Sunday, at one of the central Doncaster hotels or restaurants.

Supper Club This group meets monthly, at one of the local restaurants, for an evening meal. Tenpin Bowling The group meets on the third Tuesday, on alternate months, at Tenpin, Doncaster. Some members of the group go for a meal afterwards. Theatre and Discussion The group meets at the Cast, Doncaster, and other venues. Members meet before a production and shortly afterwards to share their views on the quality and enjoyment of each production. Travel Meetings, usually with a guest speaker, are on the first Tuesday afternoon of the month at the Maridon Centre, Netherhall Road. Most months there is an outing to a house, museum, garden of interest or a theatre matinee. Bookings for these are taken at the Travel meeting and monthly General meetings.

Writers Members write on agreed topics and read and discuss their own work. They occasionally look at the work of published authors. The group is a self-help one and members interests are varied. It meets every other Thursday morning at the Central Library.
