Mackenzie Johnson, a sophomore at Wofford College, son of McCracken Middle School Principal Jeannee Johnson, and fraternity brother to Second Pres organist Alex Parler, was injured on November 5 in Gatlinburg, TN. He had surgery at the UT Trauma Center in Knoxville, TN and continued his treatment at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA. The plan for him currently is as follows Beyond Therapy at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA. "Beyond Therapy is a rigorous, activity-based therapy program designed by the Shepherd Center to help people with a variety of neurological disorders, including spinal cord injury and brain injury, improve their lifelong health, minimize secondary complications and get the most out of any new neural links to their muscles. "Beyond Therapy focuses on promoting lifelong wellness and maximizing muscle and neural return through a program of intensive strengthening and motorpatterned activity concentrating on weaker muscles and nerve connections that may have been ignored in the initial phases of recovery. Optimizing recovery, toning seldom-used muscles and decreasing secondary complications that typically occur among people with neurological disorders are central objectives of the program. "The program offers the greatest potential for improvement by using state-ofthe-art technology to promote neuroplasticity, which is the belief that the spinal cord can adjust itself functionally by reorganizing neural maps and allowing some recovery of lost abilities. "The program is intense and requires a significant time and financial commitment on the part of the client." Donations from the Music for Mackenzie concert will be used for Beyond Therapy, Travel/transportation expenses, Housing during Beyond Therapy, Home modifications and Rehabilitation/Medical equipment. You are warmly invited to the Music for Mackenzie benefit concert on Feb. 5 th at 2pm in the Second Presbyterian Church sanctuary. We would be grateful for your presence as we offer support to Mackenzie and his family. Thank you! ~ March
