What is TEDx? TEDx is a half-day conference taking place on 21st May 2016 at QUAD, on the Marketplace in city centre. It is an independently run not-for-profit event and is operated under a license granted by TED. The theme of the 2016 TEDx event is Journeys. This has been chosen to tie in with s city-wide cultural theme of 2016. 2016 will be the third TEDx event but the license is held by new TEDx organisers, Pete and Helen of Ablewild (ablewild.com). Ablewild supported the previous events through in-kind sponsorship and were given the opportunity to take over running of the 2016 event. TEDx is a high-profile event that brings together new and innovative ideas from speakers based in, or connected to, and its surrounding areas. We feel that has gone through incredible cultural, economical and technological changes over the past decade and want to celebrate how great the city is. With this in mind, we are looking for sponsors to partner with who want to help showcase and its culture. 1

What our attendees think of TEDx In the two years it s been running, TEDx has become a highlight of the event calendar. The broad range of subjects and disciplines presented with knowledge and passion make it one of the most fascinating events of the year, and one I wouldn t allow myself to miss. Chris Chapman, volunteer 2014 and attendee 2015 I had recently moved to and was trying to soak up some culture, so I thought attending a TEDx talk would be perfect. I know it sounds cheesy, but I didn t expect all the talks to be so fascinating and relevant, or the speakers to be so willing to talk about their ideas with a total stranger like me, which was lovely! What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. At our TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised. 3

Sharing ideas and drawing inspiration from one another are some of the most powerful things that we as human beings can do. Yet often we are caught up in the nitty gritty of day-to-day life and miss out on these connections. TEDx offers a chance to hear from others, think differently and broaden horizons. As a previous speaker at TEDx, I know the value of the TEDx movement to provide a platform for local thinkers, speakers and change agents to get their voices heard. It is also a great forum for bringing the city together to listen to stimulating talks and celebrate some of the amazing things that are happening. Katharine Childs, Speaker 2015

Marketing & promotional strategy TEDx in numbers The TEDx team have put together a marketing and promotional strategy that includes the following: Regularly updated website with weekly blog posts to build interest in the event. Social media engagement with existing Twitter followers and a new Facebook page and Instagram account. Working with a selection of chosen ambassadors to evangelise about the event. Monthly e-shot sent to highly engaged subscribers. Building relationships with media and influencers. 900 people have indicated interest in attending via the Facebook event page Over 800 Twitter followers and over 2000 tweets so far... Why should my company support TEDx? Who are TEDx s attendees? TEDx attracts people from, and also further afield, who are interested in ideas worth spreading. From surveying our previous attendees, we know that they are interested in a wide range of subjects and sectors and are people who want to be challenged and inspired by innovative speakers and talks. Supporting and showcasing our city s cultural status is getting better every year and we want to help promote through our event. For TEDx 2016 we are recruiting speakers who are passionate about innovation and ideas. TEDx is an event that spans many disciplines - arts and culture, technology, science and health, business and more. The focus of 2016 is for the speakers or ideas to have a connection with and its surrounding areas. The hope for TEDx is that it becomes a local forum for ideas within our community that inspires people. By supporting TEDx, you will help us put on a high-quality and high-profile event that really shows off the best of what can offer and gets people excited about the city. Marketing for your company We see TEDx as an exciting addition to s event calendar. As a sponsor, your brand will be associated with our event, and our attendees will see that you are also passionate about s culture, business and innovation. We are looking for specific areas of sponsorship outlined on pages 7 and 8 as well as general sponsorship. Our sponsor table on page 9 breaks down what each level of sponsorship provides. 6

They re going to be hungry so we want to give them a buffet meal. Sponsor amount: 1000 In addition to providing our attendees with food, we also want to give them a free glass of wine or non-alcoholic drink. Sponsoring the drinks will be a great way to engender goodwill - who doesn t like a free drink?! Sponsor amount: 500 There will be a break half-way through the day where we will provide our attendees with hot beverages. Sponsor amount: 250 7

Event materials sponsors For our event materials we are looking for either cash or in-kind sponsorship from local suppliers. If you are a printing, signage or apparel company this could be a great way to showcase your services and quality of your production. If you don t provide any of the services below, we still need your help to fund various aspects of the event, so please get in touch! Print sponsor Signage sponsor T-shirt sponsor SPONSORSHIP GIVEN BY PURELY DIGITAL Silver Partner Event materials we need printing include the event programme, name badges and advertising leaflets. We are looking at producing a magazine-style programme which will be at least 32 pages and be printed on high-quality paper. TEDx has an environmental responsibility so we will use a print company with an environmental policy and our print items will be on FSC paper. Sponsor amount: 500 Silver Partner To sign the event, we want to place two wind flags outside the venue. To help our attendees find their way around the venue we also want to get three pull-up banners. We understand that these cannot necessarily be produced in as environmentally friendly way as the print items, but we will make sure that our supplier has an environmental policy. We will also design these to be reused in future events to limit wastage. Sponsor amount: 500 Silver Partner This year our gold and silver partners will have their logos featured on the backs of our team t-shirts. In addition to the team t-shirts, we want to give our attendees a souvenir t-shirt of their own. Our t-shirts will be made of organic cotton and ideally printed with water-based inks. Sponsor amount: 500 8

What we can offer our partners Our sponsor table outlines what the different levels of sponsorship cover. The specific sponsor packages on page 7 and 8 cover the minimum we need to put on a great event, but in addition to these we are accepting sponsor amounts to reduce the cost of ticket prices for our attendees so we can be as accessible as possible.
