SERENITY HOME Polk County Salvation Army SPRING 2016 Serenity Home is participating in Give Big Serenity Home Shelter will be one of the 37 plus non-profits participating in the online giving event coming April 26 th. This year, as a part of the giving day we will be asking for support of our shelter, our backpack program and emergency services. At Serenity Home we help homeless individuals in need of shelter. We also serve as the coordinators of The Salvation Army BackPack program. And, we are often the last stop for many hurting individuals and families in need of emergency services; Those who are in danger of becoming homeless, living without heat or electricity or choosing between food and medical. Serenity Home is often the last stop of hope for many people. Our goal is to proivde the necessary resources they need to keep going forward. Your donation on April 26 th will help us to do this. We have many different levels of giving you can choose from at www.givescv.org and we hope you will consider giving in this way. Some of our donors choose to select a monthly gift option last year and we are so thankful for those who did. For example, this year on April 26 th (or before) you can choose to support a family receiving a backpack at $28/month. We are so excited for this day of giving and we hope that you will choose to give to our many programs that we offer through Serenity Home. Donations are accepted at any level and we are so grateful for the support. Last year Serenity Home served hundreds of people in need and many lives were changed because of the generosity of our donors. Please consider supporting our Giving Day again this year. Visit www.givescv.org today to donate or save the date for April 26 th. Your gift will help us Do the Most Good in Polk County. If you would rather not give online but would still like to participate in the day, you can simply mail your donation to Serenity Home Shelter 200 Polk County Plaza Balsam Lake, WI 54810 and put Give Big in the memo area. That way we will be sure to make sure it goes directly toward impacting the many living in Polk County who need your help. We are Going GREEN! We at Serenity Home like to keep in contact with you: our donors and volunteers. We enjoy being able to tell you about all the things your support helps with throughout the year. A way we do that is by sending a quarterly newsletter to you. We are hoping to change the way we send it. If you are able to provide your email address as a means of receiving this newsletter, it would help. If you would prefer to keep receiving the newsletter in the mail, that s ok too. We are asking that you fill out this form and send it back to us with your updated information so we know how you would like us to proceed. BackPack Fundraisers in Full Swing; your help is needed! Did you know that there are hundreds of families living in our community today that are struggling to provide food to their children? This basic necessity is a struggle in many of our neighbor s homes. The Salvation Army has implemented a program that helps families who struggle by providing a back pack full of food for over the weekends when their child is not benefiting from a free or reduced lunch at school. In the 2015-2016 school year, The Salvation Army Back Pack program supported over 550 families each and every week by providing a back pack full of food on the weekends to families who requested the service. Only families who already met the qualification of free or reduced lunch qualify to participate. Currently the school districts participating in our program show that anywhere from 36% to 77% of the population meet the income limit to qualify for free and reduced lunch. Reports from local teachers, staff and others have shown that since the back pack program has been implemented, less children are showing up to school Monday morning with a hunger belly ache. Each back pack roughly costs around $7 to fill although some of that cost has been offset in recent years with food donations from local churches and organizations, a need to raise substantial dollars each and every year is there. We are hoping that you will help meet this need by donating, volunteering or sponsoring our upcoming events. In this Newsletter, you will find information about The Amery Fire Hall BBQ Fundraiser and Silent Auction and our Birdies for Backpacks Golf Fundraiser. Both events will be held in June and both events will benefit the backpacks. If you are able to help by donating a Silent Auction item to either of these events please contact Angela at 715-497-4438 or drop it off at The Cut Above in Amery during business hours. You can also call Angela if you are able to sponsor, donate or volunteer at these events. It takes so many people all working together to make this program successful. We are so thankful for the many churches, organizations and volunteers who ensure the packs get to the kids each week. Please consider supporting the efforts by supporting these upcoming fundraisers. ANY QUESTIONS: Please feel free to Call Angela Moulton at 715-485-1221. Did you Know? The Polk County Salvation Army has a Facebook Page? Like us on Facebook at Polk County Salvation Army to learn all about the fun events we participate in, volunteer opportunities, and how our organization is working to Do the Most Good!

Touch a Truck, Change a Life! Lakes Services Unlimited has decided to come again to Serenity Home and help us raise some funds during our Give Big Day on April 26 th. They will be hosting another Touch a Truck event in which they will donate $1 to everyone who stops over at the shelter to see their awesome trucks and equipment they have with their business. Besides learning about Lakes Services, you will also have the opportunity to support Serenity Home beyond the trucks. We will be cooking up brats donated by Jennie O for the event. So, Save the Date! April 26 th, plan to have a grilled brat, visit with Lakes Services and know that you are supporting those in the most need in Polk County. Serenity Home Shelter will be open for tours during this time as well. And, remember if you can t make it but still want to support Serenity Home Shelter on April 26 th we would love for you to log onto www.givescv.org and give or mail your donation to: 200 Polk County Plaza Balsam Lake, WI 54810. Silent Messengers well attended, THANK YOU! On February 21 st, The Silent Messengers performed once again as a benefit to Serenity Home and Grace Place Shelter. This group performs during the Easter and Christmas seasons around the area and does a fantastic job. The youth who comprise the cast of the show celebrate and re-enact the life of Christ from birth to Resurrection. The really unique part of this is that the entire show is done without speaking. The show is performed through music, lights and beautiful movement. If you have never had a chance to see this crew of teens, you should plan to attend one of their performances. In February, we were lucky to be included in their line up and we were able to raise some money to help those in need in St. Croix and Polk County. A special thank you goes to The Silent Messengers for doing the performance for free as a donation to the shelters. We are simply amazed by your talent and your dedication to spreading the Gospel while Doing the Most Good to help those in the Most Need. We are working with the crew to provide future performances. Stay tuned, you won t want to miss it!
