Through observation of the four basic tissue types, the way in which these four types are integrated to form organs and how organs are combined to form systems, this course will introduce the physical description of the normal at the light microscope level, while looking at research examples and techniques used to investigate the abnormal. 11.Course objectives: Histology is not just the study of tissues; it is a field of research where anatomy and physiology can be visualized at the cellular level. Theoretical part : 1.Compositional questions: Types : Q1: Discuss. Example : Discuss The major divisions kidneys nephron. Typical answer : 1- Renal corpuscle, an initial dilated part enclosing a tuft of capillary loops and the site of blood filtration, always located in the cortex; 2- Proximal tubule, a long convoluted part, located entirely in the cortex, with a shorter straight part that enters the medulla. 3- Loop of Henle (or nephron loop), in the medulla, with a thin descending and a thin ascending limb; 4- Distal tubule, consisting of a thick straight part ascending from the loop of Henle back into the cortex and a convoluted part completely in the cortex. 5- Connecting tubule, a short final part linking the nephron to collecting ducts. Q2: Enumerate : Example : Enumerate two of the followings : A: main functions of Cilia B: main functions of Microvilli C: main functions of stomach Typical answer : A : Move substances (eg, mucus, and dissolved materials) over the cell surface B: Increase membrane surface area for greater absorption Directorate of Quality Assurance and Accreditation Page 6

C: 1-To continue the digestion of carbohydrates initiated by the amylase of saliva, 2- To add an acidic fluid to the ingested food and mixing its, 3- To begin digestion of triglycerides by a secreted lipase. 4- To promote the initial digestion of proteins with the enzyme pepsin. Q3: Define the followings : Example : Define two of the followings : A: PCT B: Langerhans cells C: Balance Accuracy Typical answer : A : PCT: (proximal convoluted tubule) Reabsorption of all organic nutrients, all proteins, most water and electrolytes; secretion of organic anions and cations, H+, and NH4 B-Langerhans cells: Antigen-presenting cells (APCs) called Langerhans cells, which sually most clearly seen in the spinous layer, represent 2% to 8% of the epidermal C: Merkel cells : or epithelial tactile cells, are sensitive mechanoreceptors essential for light touch sensation. Q4: Write briefly about the followings : Example : Write briefly about the followings : A: The hair growth cycle has three major phases B: The support system of light microscope. Typical answer : 1- A generally long period of mitotic activity and growth (anagen), 2- A brief period of arrested growth and regression of the hair bulb (catagen) 3- A final long period of inactivity (telogen) during which the hair may be shed. Directorate of Quality Assurance and Accreditation Page 7

2.True or false types of exams : Q5: Write word (True) in front of true statements and word (False) in front of wrong statement. Each wrong answer will cancel the true one. Example : 1-White blood cells or leukocytes are broadly grouped as g ranulocytes A-Neutrophils ( T ) B-Eosinophils ( T ) C-Basophils ( T ) D-Neutrophils only ( F ) 3.Multiple choices : Q6: Select the most appropriate statement (only ONE) in the following questions : Example : 1- The colloid produced by plasma proteins such as albumin, which draws water back into the capillaries. A- hydrostatic pressure B- osmotic pressure C- interstitial fluid D- Blood Q7: Fill the blanks with appropriate words or statements. Example : Fill in the blanks : 1- the The circulatory system pumps and directs blood cells and substances carried in blood to all tissues of the body. B. Practical part : Practical Examination s style are: 1. Direct practical examination either through lab examination, power point slides, photos,. 2. Oral examination through special committee. 3. Theory on practice, practical examinations on papers as shown below: Directorate of Quality Assurance and Accreditation Page 8
