Course Description This full-day annual symposium is designed for all those interested in learning about the latest breakthroughs in clinical care, research and treatment in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including health care providers, teachers, autism service providers, and families. Nationally renowned faculty, which now includes Dr. Catherine Lord (keynote speaker), will present the most up-todate information about ASD across the lifespan. The presentations will include updates in the latest scientific and clinical findings in genetics, neuroimaging, psychopharmacology, neurobiology, neurology, behavioral health, and overall clinical practices for ASD. Opportunities to ask questions will be provided throughout the program. This continuing education symposium is designed to equip community practitioners to apply the most effective, evidence-based practices for assessment, management and treatment of individuals with ASD. Course Objectives At the completion of this course, participants should be able to: Recognize different trajectories in language development, social skills and adaptive skills in ASD and how these differences may contribute to different interventions and outcomes Describe the contribution of genetic factors to ASD and how they can be measured Recommend appropriate types of genetic testing for ASD Counsel families about biomedical interventions for ASD treatment such as neurostimulation, stem cell infusion, and new medications Screen for risk factors for epilepsy and sleep impairment and improve diagnostic practices for these issues in ASD Advise families on supporting youth through the transition to adulthood as a result of the employment challenges of young adults with ASD Inform families of children with ASD about the current goals and new approaches to intervention research in ASD Target Audience This full-day annual symposium is designed for all those interested in learning about the latest breakthroughs in research and treatment in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including health care providers, teachers, autism service providers, and families.
