GREENE COUNTY FISH & GAME ASSOCIATION Your newsletter for May 2010 President: Club House: 372-8261 Bob Brown 902-0090 Absolutely no guests are permitted to hunt or fish, only members, their spouse, minor children & grandchildren, may hunt & fish! PRESIDENT S COLUMN With the coming of summer there will be many opportunities to enjoy activities at the club. I hope you and your families take advantage of them and have a good time. This is a great place to kick back, forget the everyday problems of life and enjoy the atmosphere. In addition to the programs already in place which we are working to improve; there are some new activities being discussed that many of you will enjoy. Do you ever stop to think about the effort that goes into keeping these programs going? A very few members (3 to 4 %) do most of the planning and work to make it happen. I hear you thinking; That s the way all organizations work and you are unfortunately correct. I can tell you from experience that the quality of the programs is affected by the obvious lack of hands on help, but more importantly the attitude of those that are trying is eventually brought down leading to burnout. This has been a growing concern at the club and seems to be getting worse every year. The negative effects will soon be a fact of life; if we can t reverse the trend. Please consider doing a few hours a month for the good of the club, the outdoor sports and youth who will leave our sports if not properly exposed to them by us. You will find that it is quite enjoyable and not really work, plus you will make some great new friends at the same time. Bob Brown WOMEN S AUXILIARY Please join us for the May Euchre Party on Saturday, May 15th. Doors open at 6 PM and cards start promptly at 7 PM, $6 per person. We will have a Cold Cuts Meat Tray and Pasta Salad. Bring your own drinks and a snack to share. We look forward to seeing you there. Non members are welcome. Bring your family and friends. The Women s Auxiliary is currently seeking new members. We would love to have you join us. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month in the clubhouse at 7 PM. Come join us for fun! Call Jennifer with any questions @ (937) 478-4209. Look forward to another Euchre Party in June! CONSERVATION CHAIR NEEDED!

After many great years as our Conservation Chairman Tom Kohler is stepping aside. As a result we are in need of someone to oversee and direct the conservation committee. We realize these are some pretty big shoes to fill, but Tom along with Ralph Richardson have offered to work closely with a new chairman to help insure a smooth transition. For more information regarding the duties required of a conservation chairman, contact Bob Brown by phone at (937) 902-0090 or via e-mail through the club website at www.gcfng.com. DO YOU OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY? We are currently seeking any information we can find about the history of the Greene County Fish & Game Association and / or The Greene County Coon Hunters Association. If you have any old photos, event bills or historic items, badges, newsletters and etc. Please contact us. We would love to copy them and or photograph them for archival use. There should still be a great deal of information around relating to our humble beginnings and the years that followed. if you have any items that you think may be of interest contact Bob Brown at (937) 902-0090 or Tim Ankeney at (937) 372-6400. WE RE REALLY TRAPPED NOW! The Board of Directors and the membership would like to thank Joe Wright, Ken Mitch, Mike Waggoner and his son for the countless hours of hard work they have provided unselfishly during the ongoing trap renovation program. Thanks for leading by example guys, great job! TRAP LEAGUE FORMING NOW! Our 2010 Summer Trap League will start May 18th and will run the last two Tuesday s of each month; May through the end of August. The league will consist of 400 targets. The cost to shoot the league will be $85.00 per person. A thank you dinner on the final night of the league will be provided. For additional information regarding this league contact Justin Liniger at (937) 974-8996. ANNUAL FISH FRY MAY 11TH Our annual Fish Fry will be held on Tuesday May 11th. The doors will open at 5 PM and serving will begin at 6 PM. Only 175 tickets will be sold this year so get yours now before they are all sold out! YOUTH ACTIVITIES NEWS It s that time of year again; are you ready for another fun filled summer of Youth activities at the club? I hope so because we are! These programs are being held for your children, grandchildren, their families and your neighbor s kids. Only our Youth Fishing and Youth Hunt are restricted to the children and grandchildren of our dues paying members. Much the same programs as last year are to be repeated. New earlier start times for the Rifle and Archery Matches will be from 3-5 PM. Note the competition ages have been raised to 18 so that kids and grandkids still in school can participate. We ve also added BB-Gun shooting (no pellets), for those 8 years and under in age. Dates for weekday black powder introductions are yet to be set, but I can always be contacted to help get anyone started in black powder shooting. Grab a schedule at one of the area gun stores, the Xenia Wal-Mart, the extension office at the fairgrounds or the area YMCA s.
