1 February 2018 Highdown Sport and Leisure Spring Term Aspire & Achieve News January is over and how many of us are struggling to maintain that enthusiasm for the gym past New Year Resolutions that we love setting? How can you stay motivated and fulfil your health objectives? Have you tried our classes? Buy a book of 10 HSL classes for the cost of 9. Take advantage of the new self serve system to book onto the class in advance. Very often by booking in, in advance we are more like to go and you will have the continued sense of achievement afterwards. Come and speak to the team and have them revise your programme to maintain the interest and the challenge. Working on the same old routine becomes boring at the best of times, so ask for advice from the team. We are always looking for new ideas for classes as well as instructors to run them. If you would like to run a class or know of someone who would then please ask them to get in touch with us. Happy February Folks! New flooring and gym mats are coming soon. You can now book HSL classes online via our website - just sign up to our free self service system. All HSL classes are 5 - cheap and cheerful. There is an offer on HSL classes: buy a block of 10 sessions for 45, meaning the 10th session is free. If you like something relaxed and chilled, why not book onto Tuesday night yoga or, for something more fast-paced or calorie-burning, try our Friday Bootcamp. 3 Exercise of the month Instructions for Standing Barbell Shoulder Press 1. Place your hands on the bar a little wider than shoulder width apart 2. Have your feet shoulder width apart with your elbows under the bar (or dumbbells) while it sits on your collar bone 3. From this position, simply push up, over your head 4. Try to keep a straight back and not arch backwards while moving the bar 5. From the top position, simply lower the bar back to the start position and repeat Benefits The standing barbell shoulder press is an amazing exercise which targets a lot of different muscles and increases the stability of your core. Most of the work is done by the front and side delts, then the rear delts, upper pectoral muscles, triceps and traps.
