Yoga for Wellness Africa Background Yoga for Wellness Tanzania (YWT) was formed in 2015. The impact of YWT has had local community has led us to look beyond the Tanzanian horizon to the rest of the continent. This was the brainchild of Yoga for Wellness Africa (YWA). With the mission to introduce through training and education (teacher training programs), the awareness of the benefits to be derived from the practice of holistic care, yoga principles and methods in terms of well-being and healthy living; thus impacting not only our students or participants, but also their communities, and societies. VISION Yoga for Wellness Africa s vision is to have a healthy, well informed and educated Africa (emphasizing on alternative care, yoga and mindfulness) MISSION Yoga for Wellness Africa is dedicated to educate the leastserved African populace on healthy living, well-being, increasing access to positive resources and an opportunity to build resilience and be self-empowered through the training and certification programs in various alternative therapy, yoga and mindfulness development programs.
OUR KEY GOALS Deliver Educational & Training Opportunities By offering regular workshops, short courses, train the trainer programs, teacher training programs and seminars from skilled and specialized individuals from around the world and within Africa, who can provide unique wellness approach; knowledge, skills, empowerment and support. With four teacher training programs over a dozen workshops and training sessions, YWA has trained over a hundred people within the continent on self-development, health and well-being and selfempowerment Create Internship programs &, employment With other partners around the world YWA offers support to trained/ graduates in employment, internship programs (local and international) Supporting projects in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Malawi. Projects run within the health, education, prison, least-served and often most stigmatized communities. Our team and programs are established in collaboration with, and respect for, the communities we work with and within. Our graduates serve in orphanages, work with cancer patients and cardiac patients, the elderly, trauma sensitive communities (women and children), women in prison, community centres and with other associations and NGO s working on the betterment of communities and people. Spread knowledge We are set out to build an organization that builds a framework to constantly train and provide alternative therapy, yoga and mindfulness-based practices accessible to all within Africa.
THE IMPACT OF OUR PROJECTS Yoga for Wellness Africa offers ongoing short courses, educational training and development programs, workshops and skill specific training for ongoing development in well-being and healthy living for participants and members. Graduates from our Yoga Teacher Training Courses (TTCs) are required to share their knowledge of wellness in communities within Africa, primarily focusing on the under-served populace. YWA also provides training and information on employment in the wellness sector, using care as preventative maintenance and in hand, decrease in medical costs and providing further training opportunities within the wellness sector. SUCCESS STORIES All our graduates have completed a minimum of 50 hours of community service in the least served communities within Africa. Therefore, spreading the knowledge of wellness to over 3000 people within Africa. YWA yoga teacher training graduates have received financial security through employment within the wellness sector and within the hospitality industry. Effective 2018 we are running projects in Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi and South Africa Successful collaboration with other organizations to improve quality of life of people who are suffering from serious diseases and chronic illnesses Effective 2018 we have been approached by medical facilities to run training programs for inpatients and outpatients on the benefits and maintenance of cardiac vascular diseases through mindful meditation Voted for and spoke at the Youth TedTalk, Tanzania on the benefits of Meditation and Mindfulness for youth progress and success.

ABOUT OUR PROJECTS Mabinti Center The Mabinti Centre ('mabinti' = 'girls' in Swahili) trains young women recovering from fistula surgery in screen printing, sewing, beading and crochet. Yoga for Wellness Africa develops the girls skills further by giving them training in Yoga and wellness that is internationally accredited and establishing another platform for them to become financially secure and independent. The skills also enable the girls to understand the need for healthy living and wellbeing. This knowledge gives them a healthier lifestyle which is transferred to their families and children. Langata Women s Prison Yoga for Wellness Africa held a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training program for 24 female inmates for a period of 1 month and 20 days. The women were from all walks of the world and life with the one questions of what they will do when release from prison. Regular yoga session held by Peace Within Prison developed the initial desire of professional training which they showed full dedication. Kensington, Senior Citizen Home With over a 100 seniors between the age of 65 to 100 with minimal moment of gross and fine motor skills due old age. With an average amount of space in 3 rooms, Yoga for Wellness Africa have regular chair yoga and meditation sessions for the betterment of health, quality of life and happiness.
ABOUT OUR PROJECTS Ocean Road Cancer Institute A government entity and has, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare developed National Cancer Control Strategy (NCCS). The National Cancer Control Strategy (NCCS) is a roadmap toward the development and implementation of a comprehensive and coordinated national response to cancer in Tanzania. Yoga for Wellness Africa have ongoing workshops and training sessions focusing primarily on yoga and wellness that pertain to the needs. We also offer yoga session for staff for relaxation and training specific to yoga and oncology for patient care. Introducing Life and Hope Rehabilitation Centre (Sober House) An interim step on the path to sobriety where Tanzanians recovering from addiction(s) can live in a supervised and sober environment with structure and rules, i.e. mandatory curfews, chores and therapeutic meetings. Yoga for Wellness Africa run regular wellness workshops and yoga sessions to work with hormonal balancing and relaxation through mindful meditation and yoga. Jubilee Towers A senior citizen home for people within an Islamic community. Jubilee Towers is a facility that provides basic medical assistance, nurse care and balanced meals to the 52 elderly that are unable to stay with family. Yoga for Wellness Africa provide yoga session to improve quality of Iife, strengthen bones/joints, enhance relaxation for better sleep and promote wellbeing.
ABOUT OUR PROJECTS 13 Orphanages (Tanzania) Yoga for Wellness Africa hold regular yoga sessions for over 350 children. Also, running regular wellness workshops for staff to improve the quality of life, endurance, hygiene, and overall wellbeing. We provide an understanding to staff on the importance of mindfulness and the long term benefits for children. Tumiani La Maisha (TLM) In collaboration with TLM, an NGO with the vision and mission to care for every child with cancer in Tanzania. Having a ward at the Muhimbili pediatric department. Yoga for Wellness Africa has trained staff (Yoga Alliance Certification and various alternative therapy workshop certifications) to work with children suffering from cancer, who are in remission and parents of the children. The sessions are held for physical development, respiratory enhancement, better quality of life, relaxation and laughter. Latham School - Bahari Beach Located in Bahari Beach, Dar es Salaam has recently opened and has created a welcoming, supportive and nurturing environment that helps children integrate and encourages them to take risks and grow. Their philosophy is to provide children with an all rounded environment while empowering students and teachers with yoga-inspired training to promote a lifetime wellness. Yoga for Wellness Africa have regular yoga sessions for children and workshops for teachers to run short relaxation sessions during class with children
ABOUT OUR PROJECTS Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) An Autonomous institute established under ACT. No 7 of 1996 with the main objective of providing primary, secondary and Tertiary care of Preventive and curative health services in the field of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Neurosurgery. Yoga for Wellness Africa holds weekly yoga sessions for the children and care givers at (MOI) - Pediatrics Department.YWA sessions have been developed to empower children and care givers through various yoga postures, storytelling and breathing techniques for the betterment of the respiratory and digestive systems as well as by meditation for relaxation, focus and self-strength. Malawi - women with Trauma An Yoga for Wellness Africa support over 40 women in Malawi who have been gone through, physical, mental or emotional trauma. Majority of the women and young mothers who are struggling to survive and to find direction. Yoga for Wellness Africa, effective this year will be running regular wellness workshops, training and development programs as well as a yoga teacher training certification course to provide the women with support, direction, self-confidence and an option for some financial security.
