September Birthdays 9/25 Vernon W. 9/30 Doris B. October Birthdays 10/3 Eric P. We would like to wish a very happy birthday to everyone celebrating in September or October! May all of your wishes come true! Hello! My name is Kayla Pierson and I am the new Activities Director here at Pacifica McMinnville. A little background on myself, I was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania and have also lived In New Jersey and Arizona before settling in Oregon in 2004. Outside of work I love to read and spend time with my two dogs, Piper and Harper. I have been working at Pacifica for two years, having started as a caregiver. This past spring I received my transfer degree from Chemeketa Community College and this coming fall I will be starting at Linfield to earn my bachelors degree in marketing and health administration. Working in healthcare has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life and I am so excited to be able to spend every day with the residents here at Pacifica. Our activities program strives to reach every part of our residents wellbeing each day. I hope to make our activities diverse and individualized to our residents by taking the time to really know their life stories and understand what their passions were throughout their lifetimes. In doing this, we can create a program that continues to support these passions and make each and every day as enjoyable and fun as it can be. I have already began planning new activities and events that are specific to our residents and am eager to get those started. In addition to these new activities we are also in the process of starting our new Music and Memory program, which we hope to begin very soon. This program will use music to improve the overall health and wellbeing of our residents. I would like to thank every person who has donated ipods, headphones, or itunes cards to this program. Your donations are going to make a huge difference in the lives of our residents and we are so grateful!

This last month we have changed our morning routine and tried something new. At Pacifica we usually start our day with a fitness activity after breakfast. However, this month before we jump into the activity we have been doing some easy stretching. This has been beneficial by improving circulation and blood flow to the muscles, which makes the physical activities that follow easier. It also improves concentration, mood, and overall health for the rest of the day. Some of the residents who join us have even been leading their favorite stretches and showing us what they used to do in the morning to wake up! It has been wonderful to learn new exercises as a group and we will continue to find better ways to stay fit! Our hard work in the garden this year has been paying off! We have had the biggest harvest to date including tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, snap peas, and zucchini. We also have pumpkin that we are eagerly awaiting going into the coming fall months. Many of our residents have had gardens of their own and have been teaching our associates how to properly tend to all of our plants and flowers. We have also already started planning what things we would like to grown next year. It has been a very rewarding summer for all of our gardeners, we have enjoyed spending so much time in the sun! We have a daily fitness program here at Pacifica McMinnville. Our Programs include: Basketball Golf Club Chair Dancing Yoga Stretching and Toning Noodle Fun Walking Garden Club Nature Walks Stay Healthy Friends! We offer Bible Study on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 am. We offer daily Spiritual enhancement programs designed for all to enjoy. We also have a catholic priest who visits on Tuesdays at 10:00 am to bless the residents. If you believe your loved one would like to meet with him, please contact Kayla at (503) 472-3509, Monday through Friday. Supporting our Community This summer we stepped outside our own garden and visited the McMinnville Farmer s Market to see what things our community has been growing! Several of our residents have lived on farms and they reminisced as we saw all of the beautiful produce! We have loved getting out and supporting local businesses!
