, Dear Prospective Member, We are very pleased that you are considering an individual or corporate membership in the Rotary Club of Windermere. The information below is intended to share a little about the privileges and commitments of Rotary membership. What Is Rotary? Rotary International is a service organization with 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries. Rotary is a diverse organization, apolitical and nonsectarian, open to all faiths. A Rotary Club s membership is representative of the community it serves. Our motto is: Service Above Self The enclosed Rotary Basics brochure provides a broad overview of the benefit that Rotary provides not only internationally but also locally. The rewards of membership are measured in the benefit that you derive from participation in the Rotary Club of Windermere. What Is the Rotary Club of Windermere? The Rotary Club of Windermere was chartered in 1969. When you join our club, you become part of a prestigious group of leaders in the Central Florida community. Located in the heart of Windermere at Town Hall, our club boasts a membership of nearly 60 active members. Through weekly meetings and club committee involvement, you will gain the lifelong friendships that you would not acquire otherwise. It is truly a club of fellowship, community and business connections like no other. What Are My Commitments to Rotary? Club members assume personal and financial obligations including dues, lunches and club projects. The primary purpose of a Rotary Club is to provide service to the local community through donations of time, talent and treasure. In addition, members offer support to the larger international community through the Rotary Foundation. Fellowship and Business Connections Rotary membership has a certain prestige. You will meet many of the community s present and upcoming leaders. There will be opportunities to network, socialize and develop business relationships with other club members. However, expecting to network and solicit business from other members should not be the motivation for joining Rotary. Members should refrain from networking for business purposes during club meetings. When members focus on Rotary activities, business opportunities will often appear at the most unexpected times.
Attendance Rotary International has an attendance requirement for all members. You will be expected to attend at least 50% of the weekly meetings. When you cannot attend your regular weekly meeting, you can do a make-up at any Rotary club anywhere in the world or online at http://rotaryeclubone.org. Attending meetings in other local clubs, other states or other countries has proven to be one of the highlights of being a Rotarian. When you walk into another club s meeting, you will instantly be surrounded by new friends and be welcomed warmly. In addition, participating in a club, district or Rotary International committee meeting or club event counts as attendance credit. Rotary Club of Windermere Meetings The Rotary Club of Windermere meetings are held every Tuesday except holidays. Food service starts at about 6:45 AM and is the opportunity to network and socialize. The meeting is from 6:54 AM until 8:00 AM. In rare instances, you may find it necessary to scoot -- that is to leave a meeting early. As a courtesy to our speakers however, you are expected to remain until the adjournment of the meeting. If you must scoot please do so before the speaker begins. Please notify the secretary if you must leave early. Corporate membership The Rotary Club of Windermere invites corporations to join. The corporation may appoint up to three persons to be its designees, one of whom must be a member of that entity s local management group; the others can be employed by the corporation. The attendance requirement for a corporate member will be the same as an active individual membership. Each designee will be listed as an active member of the club and will be noted in the roster that they are designees of the corporation. If the designee of the eligible corporation is no longer an employee of the eligible corporation they may convert to an individual membership in the club and the individual then will be responsible for all RI dues, club dues and meal/beverage costs, as they become due. Corporate members may have their club logo prominently shown on the club website, and receive discounts for sponsorships of club events, as determined by the Board. Fees for corporate members: Annual dues: $1,000. This is $100 more than for 3 active members. The extra $100 will go to the club Service Budget or the club s 501(c)(3). Meal/beverage costs for one member of the corporation or company shall be billed quarterly. (If two o r 3 members attend the same meeting the additional cost of the second and third meal will be charged.)
