Message from Cherylee Autumn has arrived, no doubt a welcome relief for all from the recent weather events. I am pleased to inform you of our new leased premises in Newstead which will serve as a multi purpose location for a range of corporate support services and programs. All staff from our Light Street location will be relocating to this office along with a small group from Commercial Road. The following services will be working from this location - Partners in Recovery Finance Marketing HR Executive team ARC team members will be dividing their activities between Thomas Street and Proe Street including Groups (e.g. WRAP), Case Managers and Peer workers to provide coverage of their program across Metropolitan Brisbane Some CBA activities (dates to be confirmed). This will allow some more space in our Commercial Road premises for the remainder of the year and provide additional capacity for expansion of Footprints services to clients and the community. The Light Street building will be refurbished over the next several months and we anticipate that Footprints will re-open this site in early 2016. I will be attending and presenting at the Sustainable Healthcare Transformation Conference in Hobart later in the month along with Lynne Megginson our Nursing Care Coordinator and will provide an update in our next Newsletter. I, along with a number of staff, will also be attending the Aged Care Changes Briefing sessions provided by the Department of Social Services at the end of the month and will share this information with you and how you may be affected in the future. There are plenty of community activities scheduled for the month including Clean Up Australia Day, 1 March, International Women s Day 8 March, and the World s Greatest Shave 12-15 March to name a few. It is also worth noting that as a legacy of the G20, free Wi-Fi is accessible in the Valley Malls, follow the link http:// www.teneriffechamber.com.au/free-wi-fi-for-valley-malls/ Warm regards, Cherylee

COMMUNITY CARE TEAM As with the holiday period, the start to 2015 has been one filled with busy times and changes across the team. Case Manager Val Bow remains on leave and is doing well for those clients that have been asking about her. The team continues to recruit for a staff member to help with Val s work while she is away, until then myself and the team are happy to help when needed. Roster/Admin Officer Clare Ward has settled in to her short term role back-filling for Amy and working very hard to learn about all our clients needs and services. We appreciate your understanding during this time. Care Services Officer Kris is currently recruiting for additional In Home Staff following the departure of some staff. Should this affect your services your Case Manager or Case Worker will ensure to advise. It is with sadness that we announce that long term Case Manager, Kay Druery will be leaving the organisation mid March to pursue her dream of private practice. The organisation and team acknowledge a loss of Kay s many years of experience and wonderful work with our clients however we are excited for Kay in this new venture. Support for clients aged Over 65 continues to include free/low cost Spring Cleans to those eligible. If you are interested or would like to know more please contact your Case Worker or Case Manager. A reminder to all clients that Community Care Support, due to staffing changes, unforseen events and crisis events we remind all clients to allocate 30 mins 1 hour either side of their allocated approximate time of service (cleaning, shopping, etc.) in case the staff member is early or late. This helps ease the strain on our rostering team and our in home staff who continue to work extremely hard to support all clients in the community. Often they may be late due to traffic conditions or another urgent roster item. Your understanding is greatly appreciated during these times. Lastly, for those unaware, Aynsley will be leaving Footprints for approx. 9 months maternity leave mid June 2015. The replacement Program Coordinator for Community Care will commence shortly to allow time to meet as many clients as possible and learn about the team and Footprints. I am sure you will all make him/her welcome. Have a marvellous MARCH Aynsley Johnson and the Community Care Team (Kay, Val, Hannah, Jess, Kris, Jacquie, Helen, Cassie, Sarah and Clare)

Salmonella Salmonella infection causes gastroenteritis (commonly known as gastro ) and is associated with eggs and egg products. Symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning include headache, fever, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting which can last days or weeks. Egg safety Don t wash eggs Egg shells become more porous when wet, making it easier for Salmonella bacteria from dirt or feathers on the shell to get inside the egg Storage of raw eggs Egg and egg products should be stored under refrigeration to minimise the risk of harmful bacteria growing Store eggs in their original carton which is labelled with the best before date Remember it is important never to leave raw egg products out of the fridge for any longer than two hours in total, and if not consumed within a day, throw it out. Handling of raw eggs The following precautions should be taken when handling eggs: avoiding unnecessary handling of eggs contact between the shell and the contents of the raw egg should be minimised when breaking eggs ensure utensils, equipment and other food contact surfaces such as benches are appropriately cleaned and sanitised after handling eggs and egg products use separate containers for each batch of food containing egg product Remember hands should be washed and dried before and after handling eggs. Separating eggs To minimise cross contamination egg shells should not be used to separate the egg white from the yolk as Salmonella bacteria on the surface of the shell can be transferred to the contents of the egg. Separating the eggs using bare hands is also a risk as hands may become contaminated with Salmonella bacteria, resulting in cross contamination. Use a sanitised egg separator so that if Salmonella bacteria are present on the shell, it won't contaminate the egg yolk or egg white. Cross contamination Food businesses need to ensure there is no cross contamination between eggs or egg products and other food items. Use separate cutting boards for different types of foods to minimise cross contamination.
