Koegel Autism Center Pivotal Response Training (PRT) An evidenced based intervention based on Motivation Saturday and Sunday April 5-6, 2014 With Dr. Lynn Koegel, PhD Spec.ed UCSB (California) Two days of instruction in cutting-edge autism intervention strategies. Coverage of infant, toddler, child, adolescent, and adult motivational strategies. A variety of presentations geared for parents, families, and professionals. Practical video vignettes. A specialized track for teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school staff. THE CONFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN IN ENGLISH. A SIMULTANEOUS TRANSLATION WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR FRENCH SPEAKERS.

What is PRT Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) is an evidence-based comprehensive behavioral intervention for individuals with autism. PRT is a naturalistic ABA teaching approach that focuses on targeting pivotal areas of development (such as motivation, self-initiations, and self-management) rather than targeting each individual potential target skill. These skills are pivotal because they are the foundational behaviors upon which learners with ASD can make widespread and generalized improvements in many other areas. By targeting these critical behaviors, PRT results in widespread collateral improvements in communication, social, and behavioral domains. Summary of the training workshop The two-day Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) training provides a strong knowledge base of PRT research and methodology. This workshop is a lecture style training with a focus on video examples to demonstrate the application of each PRT procedure. Extra resources and information Attendees of the two day training are automatically certified in PRT at Level I. 10 BCBA CEU are available to earn. After the training, Distant Video supervision by the Koegel Center is available under the form of parental training or for professionals wishing to pursue further levels of certification in PRT. Speakers Lynn Kern Koegel, Ph.D., CCC-SLP- co developer of PRT. Elizabeth Ponder, M.A., BCBA Trainer and Koegel Autism Center Ventura County Branch Manager/Clinical Supervisor. Brittany Koegel, M.A. (Ph.D. 2014) Trainer in PRT and School Program Coordinator. Target audience This training will be beneficial to families with a child with ASD and/or individuals working with children with ASD in professional capacity, including special education teachers, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech and language pathologists, clinicians/interventionists/therapists, BCBAs, clinical psychologists, and other ASD direct service providers or consultants.

Topics covered Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) History and Development of PRT PRT service delivery model Pivotal areas of responding PRT Motivational procedures for teaching beginning verbal communication Facilitating social interactions with typically developing peers Teaching social conversation skills Self-management Flexibility Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) Motivational academics A question and answer period is included at the end of each day ; allowing for participants to engage in a dialogue with trainers and receive individualized support. Dr. Lynn Kern Koegel is the Clinical Director of Autism Services in the UCSB Autism Research Center and the Director of the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Center for Asperger s Research. She has been active for more than 30 years in the development of programs to improve communication in children with autism, including the development of first words, grammatical structures, pragmatics, and social conversation. In addition to her published books and articles in the area of communication and language development, she has developed and published procedures and field manuals in the area of self-management and functional analysis that are used in school districts and by parents throughout the United States, as well as translated in other major languages.
