Ayurveda Services Ayurveda is an ancient healing methodology that comes from India dating back 5,000 years or more. Sue McCann completed her academic curriculum at the European Institute of Vedic Studies, http://www.atreya.com/ayurveda/-vaidya-atreya-smith-.html and a rigid practicum at the Vinayak Panchakarma Chikitsalaya in Nagpur, India, http://vinayakayurveda.com. She has been accepted into the National Ayurvedic Medicine Association http://ayurveda-nama.org. Her expertise as a NAMA-approved Ayurvedic Practitioner encompasses a varied assortment of techniques to treat illness and promote general well-being, including the use of: Diet and Lifestyle Modifications Stress Management, including Breathing Exercises and Meditation Massage Yoga Herbs and Spices Ayurveda literally translates to mean the science of life. The central philosophy is based on the belief that the mind and body are one and that to achieve overall physical health, one must focus on fostering emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. A core concept of Sue s expertise is to help clients achieve wellness through balanced and healthy lifestyle practices. Ayurveda s practices are preventive in that they can slow down the progression of disease or even prevent the manifestation of more serious or chronic illness. The Ayurvedic practitioner can often detect the precursors of disease before the client experiences the signs of acute disorders. Ayurveda can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including: Acne Anxiety Arthritis Asthma Cellulitis Cholesterol Constipation Depression Diabetes Dry Skin Eating Disorders Eczema Fatigue Hair loss Headaches Hypertension Insomnia Low Libido Menopause Menstrual Difficulties Migraines Muscle Cramps Obesity Osteoporosis Smoking Stress Sue and Dr. Sunil Joshi at the Vinayak Panchakarma Chikitsalaya in Nagpur, India The Ayurvedic approach is based on the premise that when a person becomes ill, the medical condition cannot be completely eliminated unless the client addresses certain behaviors that caused the problem. These include poor diet, inadequate exercise, and bad lifestyle habits such as consuming excessive alcohol, smoking, and engaging in unhealthy relationships. Ayurvedic treatment involves identifying these and/or other causes of disease in order to promote healing and recovery. Ayurvedic remedies are simple, natural, and easy to implement. The human body is resilient and capable of restoring balance to promote health and harmonious living. Together with medicinal treatment, changing your daily routine and habits can help improve your health and psychological well-being. It is precisely with that in mind that Sue McCann pursued the rigorous training to become an Ayurvedic Practitioner. We invite you to come to Insights of New Orleans to work with Sue toward that goal of achieving and maintaining focus, balance, and wellness.

Ayurveda Bodywork Insights of New Orleans offers the following body work treatments to assist in each client s healing and restoration of balance. Receiving Ayurvedic bodywork is a wonderful adjunct to each client s individual diet and lifestyle plan derived during the initial Ayurvedic consultation. Ayurvedic Body Work offerings greatly increase each client s progress and are highly recommended for all Ayurvedic wellness clients. Snehana (Oil Massage) An hour-long massage in which warm, medicated oil is applied to the body using slow, relaxing strokes to allow for deep penetration into the tissues. The herbal oil is selected based on the client s doshic make-up and is infused with herbs specified in the Charaka Samhita (main Ayurvedic text) to restore balance. Snehana makes the body supple, increases strength, reduces stress, and nourishes the tissues. Snehana is a Sanskrit word that means kindness, tenderness, and love. This massage is thoroughly soothing and enjoyable. Nadi Swedana (Therapeutic Heat) - This treatment follows Snehana and involves the application of therapeutic heat (medicated vapor) to the body. Swedana causes the body s channels to dilate, which allows for the deeper penetration of the oil and the creation of an expanded inner pathway for the removal of toxins and waste products. This gives the body more suppleness and flexibility. Clients will enjoy a feeling of lightness and enthusiasm after receiving a Swedana treatment. Shirodara (Dripping of Oil on the Forehead) This treatment involves the dripping of warm oil in a steady stream on the forehead, particularly on the brow in the region between the eyes. Shirodara pacifies Vata dosha and calms the central nervous system as it quiets the mind and senses to allow the body s natural healing mechanisms to release stress. This treatment is 20 minutes long and uses oils made with special herbs to calm and nourish the nervous system. Clients can expect improved mental clarity and greater comprehension after receiving Shirodara.

Rainbow Reiki Reiki is a hands-on healing system that is a spiritual healing art that involves touch and the use of specific hand positions to help alleviate stress and tension. Rainbow Reiki is a unique mechanism for healing derived from traditional Reiki practices, Shamanism, meditation, and spiritual psychology. Developed by German shaman and Grandmaster Walter Lubeck, Rainbow Reiki can facilitate healing on all levels- physical, emotional, and spiritual. Reiki can be used in many settings, including hospitals, hospice, private practice, and self-care. Under Walter Lubeck's guidance, Sue McCann completed her certification in Rainbow Reiki 1st and 2nd Degree. She is excited to offer this dynamic method of healing to the New Orleans community. During Rainbow Reiki sessions, the client is fully clothed while resting comfortably on a massage table or sitting in a chair. The Reiki practitioner is trained to use a series of techniques to transmit healing energy through their hands to targeted points on the client's body. After Rainbow Reiki sessions, clients usually feel relaxed and experience a substantial reduction in stress. Sessions can also help with resiliency, insight, and future vision. The practitioner can apply special techniques to support healing from physical ailments including migraines, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, digestive problems, and many more. Rainbow Reiki is offered with compassion and can be used to strengthen couple, parent-child, and family relationships. Reiki refers to a spiritually guided life force that is utilized most often for one's personal wellness. Rainbow Reiki is a wonderful complementary modality for wellness or allopathic treatment. It is not affiliated with any institution or religion and is used in many countries around the world. Rainbow Reiki sessions can stand alone or be combined with other wellness therapies offered at Insights of New Orleans. Initial sessions are for one hour. During this visit, clients work with Sue to establish goals for the work, ask questions, and develop a protocol for wellness. Follow-up sessions last between 45 and 60 minutes based on individual need. Clients should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to relax. Commit to your personal well-being and gift yourself with a session soon! Sue McCann with Walter Lubeck, Grandmaster and Founder of Rainbow Reiki

Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT) is a type of mind/body therapy that provides clients with a meditative experience that allows for the release of tension, the experience of deep relaxation, and the acquisition of insight. This model of therapy is based on the belief that we hold memories and constricted energy in our body from past and present events that contribute to physical and emotional ailments. PRYT allows for the release of deeply held manifestations of stress and offers opportunity for transformation, healing, and increased resiliency. PRYT is a one-on-one experience that facilitates self-exploration through handson therapy that uses the body and breath in a supportive environment. The PRYT Practitioner guides clients through a series of movement and assisted postures that help promote the reduction of stress, pain relief and greater selfawareness. PRYT is a client-centered intervention that encompasses the belief that our bodies offer us a wealth of information and recognizing its messages can provide a roadmap for healing. PRYT acknowledges that each client has his or her own capacity to heal as the practitioner merely holds space and provides the mechanism for the natural healing process to occur. This uplifting opportunity is provided in a confidential, compassionate setting in which the practitioner supports the client in exploring assisted postures while using client-centered dialogue that taps into each person s inner strengths. PRYT brings about personal transformation as each client explores, releases, and integrates deeply held tensions. Through dialoguing, each client speaks about what he/she is experiencing throughout the session to allow for selfexploration and self-discovery. Clients often recognize patterns of habitual physical and/or emotional tension that are linked to ways of thinking and being in daily life. PRYT is a dynamic, holistic intervention that promotes healing and coping for those suffering from chronic pain and illness. Before your first session, we will provide you with a client history form to complete and bring to the initial meeting. We will also send you some general information about PRYT, including a helpful article and a link to a short video about this work. We encourage you to e-mail us or call us at the office if you have any questions or concerns before your appointment. It is helpful to arrive for your session on time and refrain from eating a heavy meal or drinking an excess of fluid before your appointment. You are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for relaxation, movement, and stretching. What to Expect During the First Session Introduction Sue will ask you to remove your shoes and you will be guided to a warm comfortable room where you can choose to begin the session in a seated position on a padded mat or in a chair. She will then provide you with a brief overview of the session followed by a series of questions about your past and current health. You will have ample time to inform her of any physical or emotional concerns before the session begins. Once all of your questions are answered and concerns are voiced, Sue will ask you to assume a comfortable seat and close your eyes. The rest of the time during the session, your eyes will be closed so distractions are minimized and you can turn your attention inward.

Centering During the next part of the session, Sue will take you through a guided meditation during which you will be asked to focus on your breathing and sensations associated with your physical body. As you do so, you will be asked to speak out loud about whatever you notice, including physical sensations, thoughts, memories, sounds, and feelings. Sue will use a technique called Feeding it Back, which entails saying back to you some of the words you say. This allows you to witness your own experience and go deeper into the process of developing awareness. Assisted Postures Integration At this point of the session, Sue will initiate movement and touch as she guides you through a series of assisted postures, or positions that provide opportunity for deeper exploration. She will offer you light touch, compression, and/or traction (stretch) to facilitate your experience. You will be invited to explore what PRYT calls edges, which are places that you d like to stay at for a while, including places which provide not too much or too little physical sensation or emotional experience. PRYT embraces the exploration of edges, as they often allow for release, transformation, and change. At the conclusion of the session, Sue will ask you to come back to a seated position while keeping your eyes closed. She will guide you through exploration of a series of questions to see how what you noticed during your session connects to your life. At the end of the session, you will have the opportunity to establish a goal or next step to help put your insight into action. First-time clients are highly encouraged to continue their exploration and return for future sessions. During the first meeting, you are learning how to experience and receive this work. There are many more opportunities to benefit from additional sessions and self-discovery as you reach your wellness goals. We greatly look forward to your session and welcome you back! Sue McCann with Michael Lee, founder of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy What clients are saying about Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy sessions I left my session feeling deeply relaxed with a renewed sense of peace and optimism for the future. I was able to let go of the effects of a loss from my childhood and found the strength to make positive changes in my life. Leslie, Teacher I saw the light and received hope. I was able to become aware of how I need to get where I need to be. Mary, Graduate Student I was able to visit my innermost fears and feelings that I couldn t get to before. I detached from things that cause me fear or apprehension. Tom, Nurse The session was very helpful and relaxing. It helped me to listen inside and to understand different feelings. I gained knowledge of how my body feels and how this is connected to my emotions. Kay, Accountant
