I d always wanted to give surfing a go so it was a great opportunity to try it through SportBU. The training was relaxed, informative and really good fun! Campus Sport is a range of activities available to all students at BU and AUB, and the majority are also available to members of staff and the public. Campus Adventure is a new strand within the Campus Sport programme that allows you to try alternative sports such as high ropes courses, climbing, trampolining, skiing, snowboarding, canoeing and more! Pay and Play sessions do what it says on the tin. Turn up, pay 2.50, and get involved in sports like badminton, table tennis, basketball and volleyball. In fact, on tuesdays it s free for members - bargain! Courses on offer include martial arts, dance, racket sports and even extreme sports for the adrenaline junkies out there. Delivered by experienced coaches and instructors, you ll learn in small groups from beginner to intermediate. Clubs offer a structured element to your sports experience, with coaches on hand to offer advice and help and joining one is a great way to make new friends. Leagues offer organised sport to players of all abilities and fitness levels. Five- and eleven-a-side football, dodgeball and netball leagues are available with refereed matches, venues and league tables provided. Some are also open to staff as well. Campus Colleagues is a way for staff to take part in sporting activities exclusively put on for staff, while Campus Events provide one off sporting showcases.
Campus Courses: develop your skills Our Campus Courses offer beginners or improvers all the skills they need and anyone the chance to develop a skill over the term. Martial arts or dance activities range from street dance and pole fitness to jiu jitsu, karate, kung fu or Thai boxing. Whether you are a beginner or have tried them before, our experienced instructors and coaches will guide you in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Pay and Play Want more flexibility? Enjoy a variety of sports? Then why not try Campus Pay & Play? 2.50 Pay & Play Free for members There s no need to book as these drop in sessions give anyone the chance to play a variety of sports with all equipment provided. Sports such as badminton, basketball, football and netball as well as many more are spread out over the week. These sessions are free to gym members and 2.50 to non gym members. Pay & Play sessions start the week of 25 September and run each term up until the summer exam period. Campus Clubs: Be a part of something new Want the expertise of a coach but in a relaxed and social environment? Less than 1.25 per hour Campus Clubs are structured sessions that get you involved in sports such as badminton, netball or women s football. All equipment is provided and coaches are on hand to give advice as well as looking at progression on to the performance programme where relevant. Club members will benefit from fully qualified coaches, two hour sessions and one of our Club member t-shirts. To get involved please book by 8 October. RELAYS The Regional Educational Legacy in Arts and Youth Sport (RELAYS) Programme is an innovative and ambitious project with the aim of inspiring young people and their communities to participate in, create and promote cultural and sporting activities. RELAYS provides university students with practical opportunities designed to complement academic aspects of their chosen degree. We are person centred, and our primary goal is to develop key employability skills in a variety of roles such as sports coaching, leading Campus Sport Pay & Play sessions, media, events management, performance analysis, officiating and more. We offer a number of different pathways and links such as primary and secondary schools coaching, sports clubs and involvement in the local community via youth services, as well as many events throughout the academic year. Campus Colleagues Our Colleagues strand of Campus Sport is specifically tailored for Bournemouth University staff to get involved in, and there is something for everyone to try. From strength and conditioning sessions before work, to football and badminton during lunchtimes, and cycling, skiing, snowboarding, surfing and more, during evenings (season dependent). Priced competitively, these sessions give staff an opportunity to meet new people, network with other departments, try something new, keep fit and have fun. Alison Day (Student Services) who took part in surfing in June 2017, said the session was fun and easy to get started in, especially with all the equipment provided. The instructor was easy-going, funny and helpful whilst letting you be comfortable working in your skill level. Lauren Duff (Estates) said: It s good being out of my comfort zone and socialising with colleagues.
